A brief addendum... although those characters look awful in my
terminal programs, and in the text box I am entering this web message
into on synchronet, they do look like some actual ANSI characters
(solid boxes and partial-boxes) when I view the message via the
synchronet web interface. Hmmm...

As an example, here are the contents of my msghdr.asc file. These characters are what show on the screen when I am logged into the mystic bbs, minus the color codes (which seem to translate properly):
|CL
²ÛÛÛßÛßÛ ±ßßßßß ²ÛÛÛßßÛ ±ßßßßß
±ÛÛÛ Û ßß Û ±ÛÛÛ ÜÜ ßßÛÛÛ
ÛÛÛÛ Û Ü ÛÛ ÛÛÛÛÜÜÛ ÛÜÛÛÛ
I am wondering if there is some issue with maybe the screens being
created on one type of system (like a Windows box) and the character set being different on a *nix box. Like I said, it is "stock" and I have
not changed it at all.

You can do this for all your default menu display file names, anywhere. This should take care of your so called ANSI weirdness. There is a
program called ansi2mys.exe (I think) it's still on sourceforge.net
under mystic bbs. It just convert ans to mystic pipe code. There is an screen done using pipecode

Colors are made by typing the | character followed by a two-digit
number between 00 and 23. Colors 00 through 15 change the
foreground
color, 16 through 23 change background color.
In Your example I see the characters Color Help, sk and fLUPH and some Block characters. I didn't see any Numbers or Pipe characters as I saw yesterday in Dumas's message.
When I press the ANSI Key in MultiMail DOS it shows me the same images
and characters that I saw before I pressed the ANSI Key, nothing
changed at all.
--- MultiMail/MS-DOS v0.49Only in a editor that does not support these things (issue at hand) will you see the so call Re: ANSI Weirdness the pipe color codes.
