• Indexed Message Reader

It would sure be nice if there were an easy way to order the list of message bases in the indexed message reader.

I've added the Fidonet bases (not yet on
the network, though), and there are eleventy-billion of them. I'd love to
shove them to the bottom of the list and have local stuff first, then fsxNet.

    Any ideas?

I would have thought it would add them at the bottom. Mine generally does.
I do use seperate areas, but the index counts up and it generally adds new stuff at the bottom. You can use alphabetically or reverse order (sorting is
a option somewhere there). You might be able to copy/paste/delete to reorder them as well.

Thanks. I'll poke around some more. Definitely the newer stuff is showing at the top of this list for me.

So, SORT, MOVE, and the COPY/PASTE/DELETE can move things around.
    Mine has been sorted.

If I'm not mistaken, it will list the groups in the order you have them in
the setup. If your list is:
    Local
    fsxNet
    FidoNet

When using the indexed message reader, it should show them in that order. The individual echos will be in alphabetical order within the group.

    Hope this helps.

So the funny thing is that in the Message Base Editor they appear roughly in the order I would like them (they always did, in fact). But in the Indexed Message Reader, they do not.

I do use Message Groups, as well. However, those are in the wrong order in
the editor, and cannot be rearranged. Maybe that's the real problem.

I think I just figured out how to do it (still need to test). Since the
message *groups* were out of order, I needed to use copy/paste to make them appear correctly. Amazingly enough, when you do a copy and paste there, it retains the original ID. So I don't need to go through and change the
security settings on all the individual areas.

Confirmed. It works now. Thanks for helping me think through it! Everything
in the indexed reader is based on the order of groups. Even though they lack
a sort, you can do a manual sort with copy and paste. Order matters!

The manual sort is a bit of a pain, but not too bad to work with. I'm glad
    you got it worked out.

Is this a known bug or just something screwed on my system? When I go into
the indexed message reader I see the following:

[ADM] FTSC Public Echo 3,304 0
    doreNET Netmail 18 0
    fSX Cryptographics 792 0
    fsxNET Mystic Support 10,274 0
    fsxNet Netmail 10,080 0
    Local Areas

Mystic support, at least on my system, currently has 1478 messages. My FSX netmail area has less than 100, yet both listed as well over 10k. Haven't scrolled the rest of the list yet to see if there are any more, this just struck me and wanted to post.

I would guess that at some point in time the file name was duplicated ,may be you did a copy and paste , I would delete each echo and delete the data when prompted . then rebuild them and perform a rescan with your hub ...

Probably. Could have happened during a backup if the board was in use I guess.
