• Linux games on Mystic

I've gone back to Mystic 1.11, because I remember the Linux games running
there and sure enough most do. With 16.XX Ubuntu they got rid of the setup
that worked, 14.XX is the oldest that does, but there is a work around: xfce4. sudo apt-get install xfce4
Will install what is needed and the Xfce_Terminal setup with normal telnet
will work and play most or all the Linux games fine. I ran in to this with something else that had the same issue and found in the last few days that it works in general. Should be able to get it to work even under Ubuntu 16.XX likely even the 64 bit. The old Mystic 1.11 D- command seems to run all Linux games when used with the normal telnet and Xfce_Terminal. I don't know how to make DD work like D-, but g00r00 thought it could so it likely can since he wrote both. Xfce_Terminal is part of the key to getting Linux games to work
on any newer Linux, it requires something in the older terminal setup that it has that the newer stuff doesn't. That's also when ANSI support by default disappeared, Ubuntu 14.XX works by default, Ubuntu 16.XX doesn't - but can be made to work with Xfce_Terminal.
What old Linux games would you like to work under Mystic? I can try them on
my old Mystic 1.11 at bcw142.zapto.org port 2324 using Xfce_Terminal and if
we can figure what the difference is between D- on 1.11 and DD on 1.12 then
we should be able to make most of the games work. I also suspect lrzsz can be made to work making Xfce_Terminal in to a full ANSI terminal with upload/download the way we (or at least I) did it long ago. It's really what made upload/download work under Waffle back in the 1990's (Both Avon and I
used that back then via UUCP). Back then lrzsz was providing all the protocols for upload/download on Waffle (as rz & sz commands).

What's with the "We"? I'm not old. Everyone else is getting older, but not me... :) <I wish...>
