    Hey All,
    My echo files have been acting a bit weird I'm not sure what the problem is. When I get files the .tic and the files just sit in the /mystic/echomail/in directory. I'm not sure how I can get it to read the tic and add the files to my system?
    Thanks in advance!
    Steve

    So after a lot of hair pulling and setting changes (and also a good bit of troubleshooting from our friendly neighbourhood Avon) we have worked out the trouble I was having with importing hatched files from my fidonet hub was due to a case issue. Changing my password to all UPPERCASE has solved the issue! It's always something so simple that you over look which is the issue... I think it is also that I run a Linux system which is case sensitive and
    suspect the problem wouldn't have arisen if I was running a DOS/Windows system Cheers,

    Here's what we figured out after some digging.

    The default settings in the [FileToss] stanza were all commented out. That
    made MUTIL baulk with a FAILED error as it could not find what it was looking for as it started up. That's despite specific settings for 21:1/100
    noted further down the file

    So Lesson 1 - always have something like this set up as a default setting in your mailin.ini / filetoss stanza

    dir_prefix = c:\mystic\files\

    (of if your a linux system)

    dir_prefix = \mystic\files\

    (..and then...)

    ; Auto create base options

    dispfile =
    template = ansiflst
    acs_list = s255z1
    acs_ftp = s255z1
    acs_download = s255z1
    acs_upload = s255z1
    acs_hatch = s255z1
    acs_sysop = s255z1

    After that MUTIL ran the file toss but kicked most fidonet .tic into the bad directory but did import the fsxNet ones just fine :)

    Next we check passwords for the fidonet .tic files as that was what the logs were showing was the problem. We found that depsite a lower case password
    being set in the .tic and in the echonode config it would not import them

    Lesson 2

    Set you tic password in your echonode config as UPPERCASE and it then fixes
    the issue. For some reason Steves Linux Mystic did not like the lowercase
    .tic password stated in his fidonet echonode settings but once changed to the same password but uppercase - it imported all 10 files and accompanying .tics

    Best, Paul

    Thanks again Paul, this was really doing my melon in! I hope it helps anyone else who might have the same issue. It did however put all my files in and directories in my /mystic/files/ not the /mystic/files/fido/ as was requested in the ini file, I'm still looking at that at the moment but its a fairly
    minor issue as I don't think any echo nets share names.

    Yes I seen others post about this also and am not sure why it's doing that?
    Or if it's a linux vs windows thing?

    Your best option is to probably keep the base but adjust the file path in the base settings.

    i never saw the original message. g00r00 has so much in the logs i have to search extra long to find things.

    I hear ya.. :)

    i tried to download hTic but you need to compile it to check it out.
    well the site i was on hehe

    You can get it for dos, OS/2 and windows 32 or 64. Check out this page..

    https://sourceforge.net/projects/husky/files/husky/1.9-current/2016.06.28/

    You need to put together a fido.config for it. I could zip up a copy of my config that you could see what you need to do if that would help you.

    It could be used for things like hatching until mystic can do that on it's own.

    One thing I prefer about htick is that it doesn't force filenames to upper case. If you feed it an upper case file that's what you send out but you can also use lower or mixed case.

    I haven't used Allfix since Harold Harms was taking care of it. I don't know what the current situation is with it.

    I'm using it for Fido and it's not overly flash, does what the box says and that's it :) To be fair I have not pushed it to use all of its functionality but the big PITA is the lack of long file name support IMHO.

    It sure was The Bomb in it's day!

    I think long filenames can still be done with the Fullname keyword if tossers watch for it and know how to use it. I'm not sure if allfix or even htick use it in tics that they send out. I know that MBSE sends me tics with that keyword and I sure wish my ticer would use it.

    I don't understand the issue with long file names in 2016! 1996 maybe, but 2016! Lord have mercy!

    Oh, well. The operation here does support them. I keep reading dove-net for news about long file name support. It's been talked about (not so much recently) but so far synchronet doesn't support them on linux. I think it does on windows in that Win95 FILENA~!.ZIP sort of way, but on linux nota.

    Every time I want to import a file with a long filename I need to 8.3 it. Kind of a PITA.

    It will but that requires that you have hpt also setup for message areas. You probably don't want or need to go that far. Htick can also be configured to create a file that you could add a header/footer to if you wanted and then have mutil import that into your msgbase. Htick will create that file when you run "htick announce". Below is the setup I use to create that file (although I have never posted it yet).

    That's an idea. I'm going to get a header and footer done and start posting.

    There isn't much for htick. There are a few other keywords you can use to include the address where the file was hatched and where you got if from but that's about it. The announces htick creates are informative but very plain. A header and footer is required I think..

    When we were talking about these things being included in mystic the idea was to make it all templateable so I think that will be the ultimate solution. :)
