• Reason of running a BBS 2017

From m00p@21:2/105 to All on Saturday, February 04, 2017 18:09:00

I was asked on Facebook why i was running multiple boards, as some of you
might know i have a bunch of boards running (just for the giggles). My two
main boards are SLiME CiTY (Mystic) and FRoZEN FLoPPY BBS (running C*BASE on
    a REAL C64).

The question got me thinking, why do i even run a board, its 2017 and most of the stuff is available on the "real" websites, social medias etc. For me i think the main reason is nostalgia and simply because its fun.

A question to all the sysops out there, why are you running a BBS today?

    Hi M00p!

    04 Feb 2017 18:09, from m00p -> All:

My two main boards are SLiME CiTY (Mystic) and
FRoZEN FLoPPY BBS (running C*BASE on a REAL C64).

I can relate to the second point ;)
I bought a WiModem (ESP8266 WLAN SoC connected to the C64 Userport and running a modem emulator)
Seems to work nicely, but I did not have much time to try it out extensively. But I could connect to Pauls Mystic BBS. (with emulated 80 columns mode ;)

    today?

    I don't.

I am using C*BASE 3.3.8, which is the BBS Software http://csdb.dk/release/?id=150178

The mass storage device is a ThunderDrive 4GB

    Great!!
    Thanx for the link.
I need to take a closer look when I have a little more time.

Is that the CMD Harddisk thingy?

    Hey man,

Yes, its a CMD Harddisk clone, but more or less the same stuff. Google it, there are still some for sale on ebay, but they usually got for like 300-400 usd, not cheap stuff.

You could use an IDE64, which also supports REL files if you use the IDE interface, but i think they are just as pricy.

    Thanx.
I would only use a minimal test setup.
And I guess I should get away with a 1541 disk for that minimal setup.
Sadly did not yet have time to play with it.

    I only have a 1541 Ultimate and a SD2IEC ... no IDE64 or harddisk.
