So you have Newgroups setup in Message Base Editor? I use the default name like 'Newsgroup FSX_GEN' and find that works best with Thunderbird.
Set them all up with names and then turn on the server (Servers 5 NNTP Server Options, Use Server Yes. Then use a fake email like me@here
which it will accept and setup the news groups by subscribing to them. Then it will ask about pulling down 500 headers and such. Should work fine, that's how I sent this - Oh, use Followup not Reply.

Aaah, thanks! This is the missing information I needed! :-) I am a bit closer now to a solution, I can now at least see the individually created message bases. I will still have to play around a bit, since although I can now see
the newsgroups I create, they are all still empty.

Try sending %RESCAN to AreaFix to reload the areas?
You send to AreaFix via Netmail to the server you get Echomail from (like 21:1/100 in FSXNet's case for me), with your password as Subject and then %RESCAN
as the body of the message, Should force a rescan of all areas you can send %HELP to get the Docs (both can be in the same message as seperate lines).

    Hello bcw142,

I've tried to follow up on what you wrote, and things started to look hopeful. I could at least see the newsgroup I create, but for some reason I cannot get
a list of any messages within the single newsgroup. Could I ask you a favour and look at my setup? I created some screenshots to illustrate where I am at the moment.

Firstly, I decided to create a seperate group for the Newsgroup function,
    which is here:

    https://www.under.za.net/files/01-group_editor.png

Then I created a new message base:

    https://www.under.za.net/files/02-mbase_editor.png

The "News" message base has the following in it:

    https://www.under.za.net/files/03-mbase10_description.png

I am sure that I am missing something fundamental, so any comment would be appreciated. It would be really good if I can get this NNTP lark to work,
since I see that I have posted quite a number of dupes via QWK REP recently, which is just a tad embarrassing... :-( It will also mean that a friend of
mine suffering from "severe OSX-ilitis" could simply connect via NNTP, rather than trying to get MultiMail to work. Poor soul... :-/

I can remember being stuck the same way you are now with the mystic NNTP.
I asked g00r00 about it at the time and he said he used Thunderbird to test
it himself and it worked. At the time I hadn't figured out how many
settings there are in the Message Base Editor - there's a whole lot there including your main problems at the moment.
First get rid of the ID 10 News: FSX_GEN ( hit / delete and it will go
away). Then move back up to ID 4 Chat, Testing + More.. and hit ENTER.
ID 4 will now show with all the current settings, here's what mine looks
like (looks weird due to fonts and line wrap):
    ???????????????????????????? ID 4 ??????????????????????????????????
? Name | FSXNet General Chat Quote Color | Sample ?
    ? Newsgroup | FSX_GEN Text Color | Sample ?
    ? QWK Name | FSX_GEN Tear Color | Sample ?
    ? Echo Tag | FSX_GEN Origin Color | Sample ?
    ? File Name | fsx_gen Kudge Color | Sample ?
    ? Path | /mystic/msgs/ Max Msgs | 2000 ?
    ? List ACS | s10g2 Max Msg Age | 0 ?
    ? Read ACS | s10g2 New Scan | Yes ?
    ? Post ACS | s20g2 QWK Scan | Yes ?
    ? Sysop ACS | s255g2 Header | msghead ?
    ? Base Type | EchoMail R Template | ansimrd ?
    ? Net Address | 21:1/145 (FSXNet) L Template | ansimlst ?
    ? Export To | 1 node(s) Real Names | No ?
    ? Origin | Mystic Pi BBS bcw142.zapto.org Autosigs | Yes ?
    ? Sponsor | Private | No ?
? QWK Network | None Pvt Reply | No ?
    ? QWK Base ID | 4 Allow ANSI | Yes ?

Your Net Address above is 21:2/108 mine is 21:1/145 so that and other
such things need to be set for your system, but you should get the idea.
You should also put in settings for your General Messages Local area.
Something like BBSNAME_GEN for Newsgroup, QWK Name, Echo Tag,
I use lower case for File Name, leave the other settings but the last
QWK Base ID for your General Messages is 2, other settings you can
leave alone. Set your other FSX areas up with the Newgroup name the
same as the Echo Tag & QWK Name and then they will all export via
NNTP. Once they are all setup and you ESC out of the Message Base
editor and Configuration I think it should show up on Thunderbird at
that point and you can Subscribe to them all (one at a time).

Oh. My. Word. Thank you very much for pointing that out, everything is working exactly like it should! I have activated the "Newsgroup" name for all my FSX echoes, and I can now successfully subscribe. Wonderful, thank you sir, you
    are a star!

Great! Glad it finally works for you. Summary of NNTP:
The only things you really need for the NNTP Server to work are the
server turned on (Servers 5 NNTP, Server Options, Use Server Yes.)
and under Message Base Editor the second line:
    Newsgroup | FSX_GEN
Once those things are done it should work. You just need to put the
names in for the other 'Newsgroups' that same way to make them all work.
Using the same name for Newsgroup, QWK Name, and Echo Tag works well.

In Thunderbird use a fake email like me@here which it will accept and
the server (BBS) address setup. Then subscribe to them. It will ask
about pulling down 500 headers and such. Should work fine, that's how I
sent this - Oh, use Followup not Reply.
