• Adding File Areas In Mystic BBS?

    From garycrunk@21:2/105 to All on Wednesday, January 18, 2017 14:59:00
    Hello everyone...

    This is probably going to be a really stupid question, and I will apologize ahead of time for this...

    I am running Mystic BBS on a Raspberry Pi 3 B+ under Ubuntu MATE.

    I would like to Add Several CD-ROMs (Not on the CD, but in a directory in the files folder).

    Is there an Easier/faster way to do this rather than Add every file area manually? I know how to mutil add files.bbs to the BBS. It's a LOT of
    Folders to add into Mystic File Areas...

    Is there a faster way to add these Folders / File Areas without having to manually input the folders 1 by 1??? Call me lazy, but there is almost 200 folders for 1 CD only... <Sigh>

    Thanks for reading...

    I'm curious about this as well. I didn't see an option to mass import
    multiple directories so I added mine manually one by one. I would add more
    but it's too time consuming and I'm lazy.

    Another question I had meant to ask was if there is a way to mass import file_id.diz's from files that are imported using the files.bbs importer? A
    lot of mine have really short and useless descriptions, it would be nice to
    be able to update them. I see that I can import the diz one file at a time
    but is there a way to do all files at once?

    I'm not sure about being able to mass import the directories, unless it was possible to generate some type of text file, similar to the filebone.na. With that, you could import each directory as it would with separate file echos.

    Another question I had meant to ask was if there is a way to mass import file_id.diz's from files that are imported using the files.bbs importer?

    There is an option in the mutil.ini for MassUpload. I haven't tried it yet,
    but is shows the option of importing the file_id.diz files.

    What I did, was just copy the files into the directory, and used the /U
    command from within Mystic to upload them all. That way it imported the
    file_id as they were added.

    I know you can do a Mass Import using a section of the Mutil.ini. You can create a small copy of MUTIL ... Call it FileID.ini. In there, use only the [MassUpload] part.

    You first have to create the File Areas, and make sure the folder and all
    files are there before you Mutil fileid.ini .

    So check out the full Mutil.ini file for Mass Upload. Remember, if the file does not have a FileID.DIZ inside the zip, it will put "No Description"
    there. I also have another version of the Mutil.ini called Filesbbs.ini
    where I can update the Files Database based on the Files.bbs inside each folder.

    Just check out the sections in Mutil.ini . It will explain what to do. Just do not have both MassUpload and Files.bbs section in the .ini . It may cause problems.

    Hi Gary,

    I had the same unpleasant experience when adding a few hundreds directories, all by hand :(

    It was during the first days/weeks of Mystic setup and I really
    knew nothing at all regarding internal structures.

    Mass import will do the job but file groups & areas have to be defined
    first as you clearly stated.

    Now, some weeks later, it's a bit different and I discovered that file groups/bases records are easily generated by external programs (either MPL or python or anything else). Depending on your OS and your
    knowledge of programming, I may give you some tracks to follow, or even write for you the small code that will do the job.

    How's that sound ?

    on both counts... just been a while since I did it.

    When I added CD's I made a filebone.na file for each CD and the used mutil to import/create the directories for me. You can make changes in the import filebone stanza in mutil.ini to reflect the specific access and group
    settings you require.
    Then once the areas are created just do a mass upload and your set.

    Cheers

    Not sure which version of Mystic your using but there's a sysop menu option in the file area for Mass Upload (/U). I made sure I created all the file areas and folders, and I copy the files I want to upload into their respective folders. Then when I use the Mass Upload option it searches all the folders. If the FileID exists inside the zip it adds the description and everything automatically. Otherwise it will ask me for information. Its really easy to use.

    I saw and thought of doing that. My only problem with that... I don't know what the structure of the filebone.na would look like...

    I could set up the "File Area" in Mystic. Then using mutil maint.ini to process the Filebone then use MassUpload. The only problem I have now is
    what the Filebone file content/structure would look like.... Can you show me an example???

    I saw and thought of doing that. My only problem with that... I don't know what the structure of the filebone.na would look like...

    The basics of the filebone format is file_echo and description. Here is what the fsxNet filebone looks like:

    FSX_NODE Weekly Nodelists (fsxNet, etc.)
    FSX_INFO Weekly Infopacks (fsxNet, etc.)
    FSX_MYST Mystic BBS Software
    FSX_MUTL Mystic BBS Utils, Mods etc.
    Cut<---

    The FSX_NODE is the echo name associated with that group. This is followed by 'whitespace', which is just spaces in the text file. Then it contains the description of the file echo.

    If copying the directory format of a CD onto the hard drive, you might have groups like:

    CD1 OS/2 Utilities
    CD1 BBS Door Games
    CD1 Graphics Programs

    The file echo name just needs to be unique on your system. You could even
    call it something like crbbs-cd1. The description is whatever the basic grouping is for that directory.

    I hope this helps you out.

    I am running Mystic BBS 1.11 on a Raspberry Pi 3 B+, Ubuntu Mate O/S.

    I have several CD's that I wanted to add... like "so much modem madness", Simtel for MS-DOS... that sort of thing..

    I can manually set up the "File Group". It's the "File Areas" (Folders) that
    I am needing the thing to auto create. I know I will have to set up in the Filebone thing all of the directories that are on a particular CD, thats no problem... Just don't know how to do that...

    I also know that once I run the Fidobone thing, I need to go in and
    MassUpload or include files.bbs within the Mutil.ini. I've done that with my existing directories from my old BBS....

    Many thanks...

    up in the Filebone thing all of the directories that are on a particular

    I never tried that filebone format thing so I can't help you with that. But with autocreation of file areas, if you need to, there I can surely provide some assistance. If you give my a formatted file of file areas, one per file group, following your CD directories I could quickly write a small
    program that will get your existing groups and areas and add what is
    need to you can then mass upload files automatically. Something like one text file per CD if one CD per file group, with one named area per ligne like :

    simtel.txt
    BBS tools
    Gfx
    Utilities

    and the absolute file path for each CD root (or each directory, doesn't matter), that would be pretty easy.

    Maybe even the occasion to write a generic tool for everyone that has the
    same problem (including me :)

    If you want to try this, please email me some samples of existing
    groups/areas and one or two text lists following the above concept/idea and I'll see what I can possibly do (fabian@lucchi.me). A small mps script would
    be fine, fast and convenient for each Mystic install (linux, MacOS and
    Windows)

    The Mystic Multi.ini would look something like this...in the import stanza. [General]
    ; list of functions to perform on startup
    Import_FILEBONE.NA = true
    [Import_FILEBONE.NA]
    ; filename of filebone.na
    filename = smmoden.na
    ; root directory to create file paths under. when a new filebone echo
    ; is found, mUtil will create a file using "root_dir" + areatag. So
    ; for example if root is "c:\mystic\filebase\" and the areatag is
    ; MYSTICBBS it will create "c:\mystic\filebase\MYSTICBBS". This root
    ; directory MUST exist.

    root_dir = /home/mystic/cdr/smmodem/
    ; convert tags to lower case for filebase base filename/dir 1=yes
    lowercase_filename = 0
    ; Default values when creating a new file base
    dispfile = flphhdr
    template = ansiflst
    acs_list = s10(z1|z4)
    acs_ftp = s20
    acs_download = s20
    acs_upload = s20
    acs_hatch = s20
    acs_sysop = s255
    ; true/false type values 0=false 1=true (newscan 2=forced)
    free_files = 1
    show_uploader = 1
    new_scan = 1
    ; ========================================================================== Then all you worked need to do after they where created is edit the path to show the correct DIR where the actually file exist. Then MASS upload them.

    On 01/18/17, Immortal pondered and said...

    Another question I had meant to ask was if there is a way to mass import file_id.diz's from files that are imported using the files.bbs importer?
    A lot of mine have really short and useless descriptions, it would be
    nice to be able to update them. I see that I can import the diz one
    file at a time but is there a way to do all files at once?

    Yes, assuming you have the file bases created and the files already on your
    HDD in their respective file directories.

    I would go and reset each file base to wipe the current data associated with each. Then I would run the [MassUpload] stanza that exists in mutil.ini ... probably better to save that section as a separate .ini file. This function will search all dirs for files not imported and use the .diz files within
    each file if it can find them and you have import_fileid = 1 in your
    settings.

    You would also want to set ignore = files.bbs if there's one in each dir.

    Best, Paul

    Many thanks for the info...
    I've since done some research since I posted the message and I've developed
    how to do it...
    It's very very very similar to what you described here. Thank you very much for the info.
    I've done like you've said here and Walah... I can import full CD contents
    with little effort now...

    I appreciate very much your assitance.

    I saw and thought of doing that. My only problem with that... I don't know what the structure of the filebone.na would look like...

    Here is a snippet of a .na file I made for night owl 20 CD.

    AREA 055A 0 ! Windows: A - I
    AREA 056A 0 ! Windows: J - S
    AREA 057A 0 ! Windows: T - Z
    AREA 058A 0 ! Windows: Games
    AREA 059A 0 ! Windows: NT / 95
    AREA 060A 0 ! Word Processing

    This makes all the file areas with the data file and directories names of the left column, this should correspond with your actual directories aswell and
    the far right column is the actual base name as you would see it.
    Leave the middle two columns as is and it all works a treat. I am pretty sure
    I googled .na file format and this was the example I got back.

    Hope this helps and I haven't confused you, I'm not real flash at explaining things :^)
    Cheers
    Lloyd

    Many thanks. I actually did google filebone.na and went to the Mystic Wiki
    and they had the structure layout there, so I just copied that and went from there...

    Many thanks for your assistance, it is appreciated!
