Hello everyone.

I would like to ask the following question. Does anyone use the
BADCOUNTRY.TXT on their system to block entire countries?

I've been watching my BBS and have seen people from other countries and they
do not log in... I know most are not humans, but some are and I've seen some try to hack in. Don't know why, it's a free BBS, but anyway...

Do other Sysops use the badcountry.txt file to control access and if you do, can you recommend what countries you suggest blocking???

Yes, I do but I only block China and I think it's Taiwan at this point.

Others will offer suggestions of far greater number of blocks to consider etc.

I opted to keep it quite wide open and let the auto ban feature in Mystic do the hard work vs. a blanket ban by country.

In the end it's up to you, as it's your system :)

Turkey was the biggest problem, but I think it's really Russia. I see an .ru come on every now and then and try new stuff, then after a short time the
bots are back but doing some of what the .ru person did. You can see the .ru
is live but doesn't seem to read english (or they might try login). In truth they are looking for more bots for their bot networks, not anything from a
BBS.
