• Inter-BBS Door Games

From ThatGuy@21:1/167 to All on Thursday, September 08, 2016 11:26:00
    Hey all,

Is anyone aware of some good Inter BBS Door games they'd be willing to
    connect up with?

I'd love to have a single global game of something like LORD or Planets TEOS. I'm just no sure if there is anything out there.

    Thoughts?

Many are using a hosted service now and others will speak to that. So far
I've stayed away from opting to run a InterBBS League for Zone 21 nodes but
if the demand was there I would look at it. Experience looking at othernets suggests only a few hardy souls are active in actual gaming space :(

The is BBLink, at bbslink.net. I have that here and it works well. Not interbbs really butt you have folks playing a single game from different BBSs. They have about 10 games there that you can put online.

There is also doorparty. I have signed up for that but not got it runneing here yet. That one has a large body of doors that you can add to your BBS. I forget the URL but a google search for doorparty or door party will find it.

Both BBS Link and DoorParty are very easy to get connected and since I am running the BBS on a raspberry pi it works out well with almost no effort on
my end. I remember playing Trade Wars and am having fun playing that now on BBSLink. Door Party has a small number of doors and you can create menu
links directly to each door game. BBS Link requires a menu item which
connects to their Door Menus (there are a lot of them there) Even including some of the old Zork games.

Yeah it is easier to run local games and include BBSLink/DoorParty and CombatNET since he also has a connection of games.

Just looking it over now. Seems simple enough, and if I dont have to host
them myself, I suppose it could save on bandwidth :)

    Thanks for your reply :)

Oh wow! That's awesome. I think I like the idea of DOORParty, being able to link to specific games kinda suits my methods.

That said, I'll definitely be trying both though.

    Thanks for the info :)

No probs, hosted elsewhere is certainly a lot easier. IMHO

Both good alternatives to hosting your own doors. battle.net is a pretty
active (as any can be nowadays) interBBS league. Contact Carol at cshenk1[at]cox[dot]net to apply.

DoorParty's URL can be found at wiki.throwbackbbs.com if you wanted to sign
    up.

Also, I couldn't remember seeing your BBS name in the list of connected
BBSes, Al. Did you sign up for a different BBS than The Rusty Mailbox? And if not, need help getting things going? Lemme know!

Hey buddy, I noticed it's you who are running Throwback BBS! Hiya!

I got your acceptance email, thanks. I followed the Wiki instrauctions, but they failed with an "Access Denied" error from the cli.

After reading through the Forums, am I right in assuming it's mostly because you have to setup the accounds manually?

    Thanks!

    Hey ThatGuy,
I know there is a InterBBS version of LORD, BRE, The Clans and a few others.
I haven't set them up but sounds like a good idea!

Yeah I run BBSLink & also recently hooked up Doorparty which has HEAPS of
doors and other games. BBSLink has probably the most active LORD game I have seen but recently someone beat it :O I'm not sure if the BBSLink guy has
    reset the game yet.
    Cheers,

Shoot me an email with your bash script, and screenshots of the relevant errors, we'll get this worked out quickly, hopefully.

I did sign up or at least I think I did but had to turn my attention to other things. It's something I'd like to get online here though but need time to get the stuff together.

Once I get there if I have any trouble I'll hollar at you.. :)
