• Barron Realms Inter-BBS setup

From bamageek@21:1/140 to All on Wednesday, January 04, 2017 20:25:00
I'm trying to set up a BRE League for Barron Realms. I've got my Echomail addresses and nodes configured and connecting with my HUB. However, I'm not real sure how to handle the outbound files for BRE. Will I need to use FrontDoor or can I drop the outbound files in a directory and configure
    Mystic to automatically send them?

Its been about 20 years since I've done this so y'all go easy on me :)

Can I ask which league is that? Just curious as I was pondering doing something for fsxNet just for the fun of it.

The domain is xnet (777:777 addresses so I'm assuming the league number is
777 ) I'm told they are fairly active but of course I haven't gotten my
    packets to exchange yet.

Ah ok cool, thanks... with all the telnet to door game options out there I
can understand why it's a popular route for many these days. I also recall there are fossil issues for devices like RPi which negate most folks chances
of running old school doors on their system.

Nick at Agoranet ran a league (L46) for some time and had BRE, LORD and
Falcons Elite running across approx 10-15 BBS for several years. He shut it down in the last 6 months as only 1-2 people on 1-2 systems were playing the games and the rest of the time it was just BBS sending packets to each other for the sake of keeping non played games up to date :(

Luckily I didn't have to worry about the Fossil driver for BRE. I've managed
to get a few doors to work, but there are a couple that I'm pretty sure are going to require a Fossil driver. Thats definitely on my TODO list because
both the ones I'm having trouble with are my old favorites! :)

But would there be a demand for it? I should really ask first given there's a ton of far easier ways of accessing BRE door games :) But yep, it kinda
appeals to me just to set something up for the learning experience etc. and others could join in if they wished.

I did dabble with BRE back in the day, but my days of gaming (not that they ever amounted to much) are long gone. My focus is well and truly elsewhere. And with my systems being Pi based, there's a lot of technical hoops to jump through to get BRE up and running.

There is a nostalgic side of me that is attracted to the idea, however. :)
