• Using Thunderbird for Mystic NNTP

From Balky@21:1/192 to All on Wednesday, December 28, 2016 10:01:00
    Hi,

I'm trying to properly use Thunderbird for posting echomail messages
through Mystic NNTP. I have a question: How do I properly reply to an
echomail message under Thunderbird? Whenever I do so, Thunderbird is
asking for a proper e-mail address for the recipient of the reply. Also,
what is the proper way of writing an echomail message addressed to an
user under Thunderbird? I think Thunderbird will also ask for an e-mail address here.

I'm not sure but am about to have a play with this. I was using Xnews as the news client before... but just pulling down a copy of Thunderbird to play
    with now.

    What version are you using?

Instead of choosing 'Reply' which will be as if you wanted to email the
person directly using an email address they supplied when posting the message ... likely to be bogus... and in the case of fsxNet and other FTN style setups...also non existent

What you want to do is choose 'Followup to Newsgroup' and that will do the trick and avoid the awkward email issue.

    Hope this helps

I chose "Followup to Newsgroup" in this reply. :) Thank you for helping
me out. I'll try this also on a new echomail message addressed to you.

You need to post a followup (which is the standard way of putting up a public reply).

Technically the R for Reply on Thunderbird would be an e-mail reply.

There should be a second option to "P"ost a reply since all usenet
messages are technically made to ALL and that's how the NNTP
    standard works.

Winserver and JamNNTPD will use the msgid of the reply to link the
proper to/from user threading and break the post to "All" standard
of NNTP. But technically in the purest form you don't actually ever
"reply" to a person via NNTP you post a response/reply to their
    post. The mechanics are different.

You might want to add this to the things that G00R00 needs to fix or
add... the followup posted to ALL. Other NNTP interfaces are
intelligent enough to follow the threading and extract AVON as being
the person replied to... hence addressing the reply to Avon and not
    All.
