• MRC Server

From Mick Manning@21:1/156 to All on Thursday, December 15, 2016 19:37:00
    Greetings!

What MRC server is everyone connecting to? I'm connected to myself at oxfordmi.synchro.net:5000 BUT its certainly kinda lonely by myself. :-)

Just a thought. Its been up for 48 hrs so far without an issue.

Mystic Relay Chat? or do you mean IRC? if you mean MRC then it was designed
for everyone to be on twinklebbs.homeip.net:5000 as that is the host. If
your talking about IRC then you can connect to vert.synchro.net on the
    typical IRC port.

Ya, I suppose I have. I was trying to get it working, and had a couple of server addreses from the docs, cyberia.darktech.org, and another from homeip
or something. Neither seemed to work. The server portion seems to work ok.

    A little boring, but hey!

In the process of releasing a new version with updated docs soon with the correct addresses, I did send out a note a week ago here in this echo stating
I was changing my DNS from tbbs.homeip.net to twinklebbs.homeip.net. =)

Address should be using is twinklebbs.homeip.net port 5000.

Its funny. I have both bbs software running. At the moment, Mystic is on port 23 and Synchronet is accessible on port 2323. I've been known to switch them though, depending on which package I'm working on. Mystic reminds me more, of the old BBS style, which I like. Synchronet is more 'modern' looking. I still have bugs in Mystic I can't figure out, like when you choose to read emmails and it keeps returning to the menu instead, and the way new users can't read their welcome message automatically, more on that another time.

Anyway, glad were finally hooked up to your MRC server.

Ive gone back and forth too, but I do enjoy the Mystic experience a bit more,
I only like that Synchronet has that nice web server.

well no it was designed for people to have their own servers but the one
every one connects to it twinkle for mass connectivity now one can have their own server for say group meetings or what every you would want others to join.

Yes, I haven't put out a new revision since the hosting duties were taken
over by Pequito on Twinkle BBS. We are in discussion about releasing a new version that has the updated server address.

Having said that, it's entirely possible to host your very own server. The hard part is getting other BBSes to connect with it. The way is stands right now, a BBS can connect to one server at a time.

Yes, indeed. I have now connected to Pequito and all is good. I still have
IRC capability here, through Synchronet. Using XP I found only one version of Python would work for me, and it took ages to find the right one. None of the other MPL stuff works, but MRC seems to work fine.

Thanks for your response and Merry Winter Seasonal Light Day. :-)

From your synch BBS you can do an rlogin to the MRC server with the following command, this has not been made public till the new release still being discussed with Gryphon.

from SynchroNET BBS setup an rLogon: ?rlogin.js twinklebbs.homeip.net 1000

Dribble from Lunatic Fringe was helping me test this before making it more known, this allows others to connect to MRC which are not mystic systems.

    Cheers!

I think what your missing on message reading is if you want to see the list again use L to get to the list. There are quite a number of oneletter
commands that can be typed when reading messages. X saves it to a file for example. ESC & Q aren't the best ways out of email ;)
Also they aren't emails, they are EchoMail ;)

All or most MPL should work, Blackjack is standlone and comes setup (or did). Are you saying that doesn't work on Mystic? You need to setup them up, most people do so under (D) Door Games
    Display Text (B) Blackjack
    LightBar Low Blackjack
    LightBar High Blackjack
    Hot Key B
    Access
    <SNIP all defaults>
    Command Access Data
    (GX) Execute MPL program blackjack
