• FTN and QWK.

From Weatherman@21:1/170 to All on Sunday, December 04, 2016 09:54:00
I have been slowly working on adding all the networks I carry on my WWIV BBS
to my Mystic BBS. Recently, ran into a snag.

For reasons which I can't explain, I have been unable to get my D'Bridge hub
to send any Dovenet messages on to my Mystic setup.

I currently am getting a Dovenet feed gated to FTN and then to my hub. For some odd reason, D'Bridge passes the messages to my WWIV system but not
    Mystic.

Instead of spending anymore time trying to deal with that issue, the better path would be to just use Mystic's native QWK support for that network.

It seems straight-forward, but was just wondering if there are things to keep in mind when setting that up. I'm also going to need a feed, but wanted to make sure that was the way to go first.

    Thanks!

That makes sense. I've never used Mystic's QWK support, so I can't offer any assistance with setting it up. I use Synchronet for all of my QWK networking.

Sounds the simplest. Main thing it to make sure QWK is the only networking technology turned on for the QWK areas. I have seen reports of issues with dupes and other bad things happening when Mystic sysops try to (or accidentally) gate between networks. That's why I use Synchronet for my QWK operations. I do a lot of gating, and Synchronet is well suited to gating between different network types.

I should qualify my reply with the fact that I have not set up a QWK Mystic system.

That said I have a hunch there's some niggles in what running QWK vs. a FTN style connection can offer you. I'm sorry I can't be more specific as I'm
just not across this subject. Perhaps check in with Nick at Agoranet as he's more versed in the wonders of QWK and did run it for a time with his NET. But he also opted to stop offering it in the end (fairly sure that's right?) because of issues he encountered...

Sorry I can't be of more help.

    Best, Paul

I really didn't think I would have a problem feeding Dovenet from my D'Bridge hub, since it works fine sending to my WWIV system. I have no idea why it won't send to my Mystic setup.

Figuring that since Mystic has native QWK support, might as well have native Dovenet feed vs. a gateway to FTN for it.

Just was wondering how many people are doing that before I ask for a feed,
    etc.

Slowly going to have the same functionality on both WWIV and Mystic systems
    as time permits...

    Yep.

I don't use Mystic for DOVENet, so I can't offer anything specific.

Similar has happened for me with Synchronet and Mystic. I initially tried to make them different, but circumstances (like providing QWK gateways) conspired to make both systems more similar.

It is very odd, to say the least. Gaylen has been gating DOVEnet to me for years. We have a mini-bogus FTN network to do this. He sends to my D'Bridge hub, which then should feed my WWIV BBS and Mystic BBS.

For whatever reason, it only feeds my WWIV BBS and doesn't make anything for
my Mystic side. I have no idea why, as everything looks correct in D'Bridge
to export to both systems. It just doesn't do it.

Regardless, I have other options since I should be able to pickup DOVEnet native using Mystic's QWK setup.

Very strange. Obviously, something very subtle causing an issue.

Should be. I might have to do some QWK testing with Mystic here on a local net..

    That's good to hear.

The private messages from QWK networks have always been a hit or miss with
me, too. When I get a private message from a Dovenet, I can't reply since
    they have no node addresses.

Not a big deal to me. At this point, I just need to find a feed and get it setup as native QWk since the FTN route through my hub isn't working.
