• I've got a Netmail routing question...

From tallship@21:2/104 to All on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 20:26:43
If I try to post/send a Netmail message to 1:x/x and I'm only on fsxNet and only have the nodelist for fsxNet imported, will my message arrive at the intended recipients address/node in zone 1?

    Comments, suggestions?

If that message is intended for a Fidonet node in Zone one then no, unless
Paul is running a zone gate, but I doubt it.

The only functioning zone gates that I know of are the inter zone gates for fidonet. Zone 1,2,3,4 and 5.

Is that a node in fidonet zone 1? Yes, you can send to any address. You might need to add the destination to your mailers config to send it. The message will
arrive at the destination from your 21:?/??? address if you don't have a zone 1 address setup there and they may or may not be able to reply to your 21:?/???
    address.

If you like you can test against my 1:153/757 address and I can reply to your 21:?/??? address.

    Yes.

But a qualifier first, to send it you would need to ensure enforced nodelist lookups were set to off in your config, else Mystic would only allow you to compose netmail to known nodes that had been created when the [mergenodelist] stanza had been run.

Your Zone 1 netmail will be delivered into Fidonet, all Zone 1-4 traffic from Zone 21 (fsxNet) is routed to 3:770/1 (a Fido HUB I run) and onwards to it's intended destination in Fidonet.

Getting a reply back to you is a different story, the fido end would need to know to send the reply to your fsxNet AKA and that netmail (if routed by
other fido systems to 3:770/1) will then be passed back into fsxNet and on to your BBS. I have asked folks in Fido if they could set routing rules to redirect Zone 21 traffic they receive to 3:770/1 ... so I am hopeful some have...

Also any netmail addressed to your fsxNet AKA that is routed and delivered to
a fsxNet HUB from another system in a different Zone will also be delivered
    to your system.

    Best, Paul
