• EchoMail Import doesn't recieve anything?

From Nodoka Hanamura@21:1/101 to All on Wednesday, September 25, 2019 17:35:45
    Hey there,

As I said in the General chat, i'm a new SYSOP, who runs the NeoCincinnati
BBS. I was wanting to try and get my BBS connected to a network, namely
FSXNET. I had followed Avon's instructions in his video online about configuring Mystic for FSXNET, and on the first attempt with the mailin.ini file that was configured by him for EchoMail, I find that only a few echos
are recieved from the network, around 3 after importing and running FIDOPOLL.
I don't recall how many exactly. It does send, but after that initial
attempt, it ended up just not recieving any more. The only three I got were from the General chat, and were the last three after mine.

I also have a cronjob going via crontab (I'm on Linux Mint 18 Serena) that
goes and polls the network every other hour.

    Am I missing something here?

Is there inbound mail pilling up in your inbound not getting tossed perhaps, or
the mailer is not picking anything up?

I'm not sure, I would check the inbound and if nothing is in there check the logs.. they should provide a clue.

One last thought.. is fidopoll running to get your mail?

Try running fidopoll from the command line and see if it connects to you hub.

I have Fidopoll running on a cronjob, but running it manually only gets the latest posts. I have yet to verify with the cronjob log to report what is
going on on that end, though. Import works through MUTIL, but FIDOPOLL isn't getting everything. I saw in Avon's video online on setting up fsxnet that he would get multiple returns, but I only got about 3 as I mentioned before from FIDOPOLL grabbing messages off the network.

Are you setup with your own node yet? If you poll as 21:1/999 someone else testing also maybe picking up those packets so you may not get everything.

Once you setup with your own node that won't happen.

I think you're on the money there Al. :)

Yep it's the use of the /999 AKA and others picking up packets and files when you are not polling... so best grab your own node number to avoid others snaffling the messages :)

Do you poll for mail or is your mail feed setup to automatically send (Crash) mail to you?

I also have a cronjob going via crontab (I'm on Linux Mint 18 Serena) that goes and polls the network every other hour.

Actually its much easier to have Mystic handle all it's own events. Via the Event editor. Mystic comes with a handful of events already configured but are not enabled. I have about eight events including polling, importing and exporting mail based on either interval or semaphore, TIC file processing, nodelist management, Etc. All events can be handled by Mystic. The only cron tasks that I let Linux do is load MIS at bootup.

    Am I missing something here?

Missed? No. Just haven't explored all the possibilities, yet. :-)

    Jeff

I actually just figured that out about the event system. the crontab process
is borked on my end (even though I configured the root crontab), so I guess
I'm going to just use the events system from hereon out. Thanks for the info, either way.

I do believe I have it configured in CRASH mode, by the way.
