From Black Panther@21:1/186 to All on Sunday, September 15, 2019 00:21:16
    Hi All,

I was just wondering if anyone else has noticed this.

I was looking at the BBS system, and noticed the semaphore file
'nodeinfo.now', which should be 0 bytes, or close to it, is almost 2MB in size...

It's not a matter of space on the HD, but it seems a bit large for a
    semaphore file...

I asked about this some time ago but never got any responses. nodeinfo.now grows by a few bytes with every login. I never found anything describing
what this file is for, so no idea if it should be pruned/deleted from time to time. Also, ~/busylog.txt (log of creation/removal of bsy flags) is another file that will grow and grow unless rotated or deleted from time to time.
I recall g00r00 talking about removing the busylog functionality from mutil once other busy system issues were worked out, but it's still there and can
    be another source of bloat.

I'm not entirely sure what it's actually for either. Just kinda strange...

I do believe that one was only meant to be a temporary thing, but it is still there. I actually added a few lines to my maintenance script to remove that
    one each night.

Even though busylog.txt is a fast grower, it does provide some useful info. I added busylog.txt to my log rotation script so I have a few days worth of it
if for some reason I need to go back and check things. I considered doing
the same for nodinfo.bsy. All it contains is line after line of ascii
character 0 with a line feed. I can't imagine what use it would be, except perhaps the timestamp of when the file itself was created/modified. I've avoided messing with it just in case it does have some vital importance, lest
    I cause a rip in the space-time continuum. :)

I don't have a zillion message bases on my BBS, though.

I think this may be a windows vs Linux issue... I see no issue in my Windows install either.

I don't think that has any bearing, as Mystic isn't doing my mail transfers
    or tossing.

Still a bit stumped on this one...

That's probably it. It seems as though the semaphore keeps getting a few
bytes added to it, each time Mystic checks it...

I've sort of kept an eye on it, and just about anything a user does adds another couple bytes to it. Changing menus, listing files, anything.
Not just limited to message related activities. And the 2 bytes added are always a 0 and a carriage return no matter what action triggered it.

I'm sure it was turned on for testing and g00r00 just forgot to turn it off.

We know that it happens in Linux and doesn't happen in Windows. Can someone
let us know if this also happens in the rPi build?
