I am trying to edit ansimlst.ans which is the message index when reading a message base.

My issue is there are 4 pipe codes in the file (|CL, |!1, |!2, and |!3) that are at certain points in the file. If I leave them there, I am unable to edit the areas they are at. If I remove them before loading the ANSI, it messes everything up.

Is there a trick to editing these ansis, but retaining the layout and |codes?

Since I was only wanting to change colors, I was able to edit the ansi file
and change the color codes. But I am still interested in any tricks to edit
the templates incase I decide to make more extensive changes later on.

With most of these I had to edit them in Thedraw. For ansimlst I got it completely ready and changed it in thedraw to "animated" using Alt-J then
added in the three pipe codes 1,2 and 3 and saved it as home cursor, came out of thedraw and edited it a text editor and added the CL and PO codes at the beginning manually.

add then at the end with a X/Y mci code the [Xxx [Yxx with a pipe of course

I tried several things, but didn't try that. I'll remember that trick though. Since I am not *yet* modifying the location of things, just colors. I am editing the .ans file with a text editor and just change the color codes.
That seems to work out ok.

I didn't see that in mine, but I eventually just text edited the .ans file
and changes the color codes to what I wanted. It's a bit tedious, but it
    works.

    numbers for example "|[X12|[Y15!&1"

The way I do it is I draw the ansi the way I want it using thedraw. Then I
use a text editor to add the pipe codes. I add all the pipe codes on the bottom (last) line, and I append to the end of the last line instead of
adding a new line. I use the [X and [Y pipe codes to move the cursor to the proper positions, then I use the other pipe codes as needed.
