I'm thinking about playing with the Linux version and moving my boards to a dedicated machine. What I want to know is: Are the executables the only difference between Linux and Windows versions? If I install on my linux box, can I just copy all the data and config files over from my windows
installation or will I have to start each board fresh?

Yes, I believe that is the only difference.

You may need to change paths from c:\mystic to something like /mystic.

Thankfully there is a global change option in the message and file areas.. :)

For the most part you can move with ease to Linux

Have a look at the wiki

Q: I use Mystic in Windows, but I want to move to Raspberry Pi. Can I move to
a different operating system without losing my BBS data?

This is helpful info when moving from a windows to linux setup.

Yup, all the .dat files, .mnu, message base files and file base files are portable (along with all the .ans and .asc files of course).

You will have to go through the various paths and change them to the *nix format (/path/to/mystic etc..).

Yes, the data/system files should be OS independent. As are several of the other currently popular BBS packages. Two differences that you would have to manage is paths and character case. Windows is based on <Drive Letter>:\dir]dir\ where Linux is based on /dir/dir/Etc. Your also better off changing paths and filenames to lower case in Linux.
