• Mystic Netmail Issue

From Black Panther@21:1/186 to All on Monday, June 24, 2019 14:08:45
    Hi All,

I haven't run into this issue before, so I'm not sure where to start...

It seems like when netmail messages come into my system, Mutil tosses them
with no problems, but they do not show up in the netmail message base. I've tried sending areafix messages to a couple different hubs, and I see the .pkt files come in and get tossed...

Here is a snippet from the mutil.log:

    + Jun 24 13:57:25 Importing 0ea58e0b.pkt (1337:3/100 to 1337:3/111)
    + Jun 24 13:57:25 Netmail from AREAFIX (1337:3/100) to Dan Richter (1337:3/111)
    ! Jun 24 13:57:25 Import from /home/dan/mystic/echomail/in/unsecure/
    + Jun 24 13:57:25 Results: 0 echo, 1 net, 0 dupes, 0 tossed in 0.07s
    + Jun 24 13:57:25 Shutdown Normal (0)

When looking in the message base, I can see the outbound message, but the response doesn't show at all. I've even checked the actual files for the
base, and the response isn't in the file.

I thought maybe it was a permission issue, but even after running 'sudo chown -R dan:dan ~/mystic', I still get the same problem.

I did have forwarding set up in my mailin.ini file, but have commented that
out just to make sure it wasn't the problem.

I'm not sure what I broke this time... :)

Do you have one common netmail base?
Made any changes to it lately?
After I send this I will also reply with a test netmail to you.

I actually have two, one for fidonet, and one for other nets. It's been set that way since I started with Mystic...

I rebooted the system... :) That's about it.

I'll take a look. I do have a script copying .pkt files into a separate directory right now, so I can see when something comes in...

    + Jun 24 18:41:33 Results: 6 echo, 1 net, 0 dupes, 0 tossed in 0.08s

There's nothing showing in the netmail message base... :(

I would be tempted to take a backup and remove both netmail bases, create a
new one and let me know when to send another test

You could also try and pack/purge across the base or as a second option reseting the base..

    That's what I just did...

Evidently, I had a new usenet base get created, that somehow got set as
netmail instead of echomail. With me not having it set to scan for new messages, I was missing the messages... I think it's working now. I just replied to your netmail.

In my searching for the issue, I did notice that Mystic isn't purging old messages from the netmail bases. I have them set to hold 1000 messages, up to 365 days old. I also have in my nightly maintenance, to purge/pack/link the message bases.

The one netmail base had almost 4000 messages in it, dating back to 2017. The other had over 3000 messages dating back to 2017. I also have my dupe local base set to only hold 250 messages up to 30 days, and it has over 24000 messages in it...

Something is a bit wacky here...

I have/had the same issue here. I had a Fido Echo which was supposed to be limited to 5000 messages, and had like 8000 messages in it. I dropped it down to 4000 and 180 days instead of 365 and created a manual purge/pack mutil file and ran it without the BBS running and it deleted in one run approximately 4000 messages total from all of my message echo's.. I think the main reason my system isn't doing it in automaint is because I turned it off when I read a message from g00r00 that the pack and purge should be run with the BBS down although I could be wrong on that.. It's something to look at...

I'm not sure what I did, but in the maintenance last night, it seemed to work... Now, I'm showing that I have 958 in a base set at 1000 max, and 862
in another set at 1000. I actually removed the dupe base, so I'm a bit
curious how many it will hold when I actually get some dupe messages...

    Strange... :)

I should add it back into my weekly maint.. See if it keeps up or causes problems..
