• Disappearing event

From nathanael@21:4/123 to All on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 10:17:39
Just noticed that my BBS ad, for which I had set up an event, hadn't
ato-posted in a week. When I checked my events, the event I'd set up had gone missing. I did find a second copy of the stock weekly maintainance event,
which I believe I had copied originally to create my autopost event from.

Recreating the event was not a problem. Just can't understand why it would disappear. I've barely touched the board, save for reading messages, and haven't made any configuration changes in a couple of weeks.

Has this happened to anyone else?

I have had things stop working, but I don't remember an Event actually disappearing. What happens to me is mis stops working fully and needs to be restarted. Using the Pi I do a 'sudo killall mis' when no one is on the BBS. Then I restart it with 'sudo mis daemon' and that generally fixes the hang.
It still happens sometimes with A43, but is pretty rare now, g00r00 has found most of the things that used to cause hangs now and handled them well.

The attackers still cause hangs on rare occasions that can be fixed as I note above. The only reason I've had to restart the system is hangs in X windows. When it hangs up I need to restart and right now X windows has stopped fully working on the system, but works fine remotely. I'll either get X working fully at some point or rebuild the system again (which I how I've fixed it
in the past). Since I can get it working remotely I can still use it pretty much the way I always have without X working fully on the system itself.

I have had similar behavior on a Raspberry pi where the SD card was showing erratic behavior - eventually the card stopped working and I had to restore
    the BBS from backup.

I haven't seen any other signs of erratic behavior from the SD card, so
    here's keeping my fingers crossed.

I'm not going to worry too much more about this. So far it was just a
one-off. If it repeats, it'll be time to take a closer look.
