    Hi All... Anyone using a IRC program with their systems? MRC is fantastic!
    Not that.. IRC I downloaded Gryphon's IRC program and the modified one by Stackfault. Gryphon's gets me to a handle prompt then gives me a Python
    Error, lin line 964 and line 600 in print screen, says the my handle not in list... Any ideas?? Or is there another one to use?? Thanks...

    At one point I set up BitchX to run non-privileged from my bbs user and to
    take the logged-in user on the BBS's handle as the username. It worked pretty well, if I recall, but only if usernames were one word :P In any case, that's an option, and a pretty good one IMO.

    OF course, this is dependent on using linux...

    I couldn't get the Python IRC client to work on my Mystic system either. I ended up setting up a menu option on my Sunchronet board and using its native IRC client instead.

    Ok, let me try setting it up again and I'll get back to you what the steps were. Are you able to give me the server and default channel you'd want the users to join?

    I'd have to dig through the configs on my Synchronet board to get the details, but in the context of this discussion, I'd say it was the Mystic IRC server and channel. I have both Mystic and Synchronet IRC servers (as separate menu items) configured on Synchronet.

    BitchX under Mystic would be a nice to have. :)

    <Same issue with Synchronet> Curious, what was the command syntax you used to pass to BitchX? I compiled BitchX (STILL my all-time fav IRC Client) and I am planning on using BitchX with Enigma BBS to connect to the IRC. I've looked (not REALLY hard...yet) for the commands you can pass with BitchX, but haven't found anything yet...

    I would recommend using StakFault's version. It is more advanced and has more bug fixes.

    Before creating irc.mpy, I used irssi as a door for IRC. I patterened a lot
    of irc.mpy's behavior on it.

    Hey guys, I can't verify that this works 100% and blocks users from doing elevated things. But here's something to test, and I'd appreciate the help (since I am a bit hamstrung testing for now).

    I tried both scrollz and bitchx.

    First I'll go over how each were compiled.

    ScrollZ:
    Grab latest source, untar it.
    Run ./configure
    Figure out your BBS user account's UID in /etc/passwd
    Edit <scrollz>/include/irc.h and make #define DAEMON_UID <your_UID>
    make, sudo make install. A quick look at the code suggests this'll result in a non-privileged account. I'm not...totally confident, though.

    BitchX:
    Grab latest source, untar it.
    Run ./configure
    Edit include/config.h
    At the very bottom, add a line:
    #define RESTRICTED
    Save it, make, sudo make install

    Ok, now run it as a stdio door. This is my script that I use to run it. Note that the username portion should get passed from the BBS somehow.
    <irc.sh>
    #!/bin/bash
    IRCNICK=$1
    IRCNAME=$1
    IRCSERVER="irc.Prison.NET irc.mzima.net irc.servercentral.net irc.choopa.net irc.colosolutions.net"
    IRCSERVERS="irc.Prison.NET irc.mzima.net irc.servercentral.net irc.choopa.net irc.colosolutions.net"
    TERM="linux-vt"
    IRCHOST="montereybbs.com"
    export IRCNICK IRCNAME IRCSERVERS IRCSERVER TERM IRCHOST #/usr/local/bin/scrollz -q
    #/usr/local/bin/BitchX -q

    Uncomment the one you want to run, this script launches either one. Something that's missing is auto-channel-join. It also doesn't handle long user names or ones with special characters or spaces...a more clever way would be a forced nick registration.

    Also, don't steal my IRCHOST :D
