Just another update... I am about 80 messages behind here and I am very busy with work. I'll probably be super busy for the next 3+ weeks as I have some deadlines that are aggressive and then I have to travel for a week.

Yeah, working through the weekends and so on. I still stop to take some breaks here and there (like this one) but its pretty much wake to sleep until this stuff is all done. I was two weeks ahead on my delivery when some requirements changed causing a major impact to my design. Good thing I was two weeks ahead.

Once the smoke clears I hop on a 2,500 mile flight to tie up some loose ends and just show face as they say (since I have been working remote).

Flying is more annoying these days because I used to fly 100,000+ miles a year in my prime and I had every single perk you could imagine. I always got free first class and access to all of the lounges and so on. Now I get nothing because I only fly a few times a year.

After living the "celebrity flier" lifestyle it sucks to go back to being a "peasant" in the eyes of the airlines.

That sounds grueling to say the least. I think it's good you can take mini breaks to stay sane and give balance. Don't forget the eating and sleeping thing too... easy to say I know..

That kind of thing happen much? I guess it would, but perhaps not such an impact like 2 weeks for this one?

That way they know an AI didn't build it huh? :)

Hey I'm just happy to fly and I'm lucky if I travel 1/3 of those miles during my lifetime I guess :) Sounds to me like despite the lack of the flashy stuff the quality of life might be better overall though..

I look very much forward to Friday nights when I can sleep in as long as I want into Saturday and know that I have a whole other day off ahead of me.

Its so much easier to crunch on the weekends because during the week I get so many other distractions at work. On the weekends I can work a bit, check the networks, write a couple of lines of Mystic code to clear my mind, rinse and repeat.

Usually smaller things come up this late in a project, but in this case it was a major revision to the design. The particular issue was one that I brought to attention to the group during our initial discussions, but it seems like no one really understood the issue I was trying to explain at the time. Now they do after seeing it.

    Exactly!

Flying loses its novelty when you do it all of the time. It sounds like
you do it infrequently enough that its still feels adventurous, so that is good!

There are pros and cons to my new(er) arrangement. I've never really been at peace with the massive pay cut I took, but I needed a break and it was time to give back some to those who raised and cared for me when I was younger. Things come full circle like that and its my turn now.

I had a love/hate relationship with the travel. It was stressful and exciting to go to new places and learn the inner workings of a massive company/industry. The time lines were aggressive but it was rewarding when I succeeded. And when I did, people in my specific industry heard about it. I have none of that in my new job, but I don't travel often and I like who I work for.

Ugh.. Can't tell you how many times this has happened throughout my career. It's become a pretty regular theme. I feel your pain.

I have been lucky as today was a local regional anniversary holiday so my Monday has been like another Sunday. Sleeping in or at least knowing you
don't need to get up and moving within an hour of waking up is the best!

Yes it sounds better. For me I tend to try and juggle the demands of wife and family around chores to do for the house and my desire to potter with the BBS and wider hobbies related to it e.g. fsxNet admin duties and Wiki work at the moment etc.

Perhaps next time you hit something like that you could pull out a story
about 'the time when client A asked for xyz... and that was a bad idea
    because of abc..' :)

Yep I've flown a few times to Australia and once to Singapore and also once
to the USA (2017) and that's been it for far as big travel is concerned. I
have flown quite a bit domestically but that's like 1-2 hours max in a plane and our national carrier only offers coffee/tea/water and a choice of a
cookie or crisps... so it's hardly living the good life - heh.
