• EchoMail message bases

From rEApZ@21:1/166 to All on Monday, September 05, 2016 16:49:00
Anyone know how to rename Echomail message bases to their full name? I've
been reading up on fidonet.na I'm not sure if thats what I am meant to use.
I'm not really sure how .na files work.
    Cheers,
    Steve

I'm not sure if I understand your question, nut .na files are usually just
area lists with descriptions. You can import a whole list of message or file areas with them.

That's fair enough I don't really know what I am talking about! haha :)
If you import a .na file it will rename all the areas and add any that are
    not already there?

no, It won't change any areas you've already created. If there is an area in the list that is already in your setup it will be skipped.

Ooh okay so I would have to manually change the name for each area or import the na before the area has been created?

Yes, no existing areas will be changed by importing an area list. It will
only add the areas listed with the defaults you set in the mutil.ini.

You will need to add an export node to areas you have added with an arealist.
I always select those areas with the tab key and then do /G and do a global change to add the link to those areas and anything else that may be needed.

Importing a .NA file is a quick way to create message areas and load descriptions quickly. The correct stanza to use in mutil.ini will also allow you to let mystic know what ACS settings etc. to apply when it creates the bases for you.

One downside is that you can end up with a lot of empty bases until traffic flows in and fills them up. My 2 cents... let the feeding HUB send you
traffic and have Mystic auto create stuff as it arrives. Then you just tidy
up permissions as needed etc. Users have bases with content in them and not
14 areas with next to nothing etc..

The YouTube clip https://youtu.be/VNa16vrXEyY walks you though how the .NA process works.

    Best, Paul

Yeah I ran through the video and added a heap of areas but then realizing
alot of them were probably dead I removed a lot of them. But now the names
for all my file bases are just the ones that are sent through not the long names, but its no big deal.
    Cheers,

Just don't forget to add a link to those areas else local messages will go nowhere.

I have used the auto add feature of mutil too and it works well. I like to import my areas so they are listed in order of area tag. My alpha numeric
mind would have a conniption if stats was listed at the top and bbs_ads somewhere at the bottom.

It's a good idea to have the auto add enabled so missed or unexpected areas will be created for you.
