Hi g00r00, I guess you know already, but just in case you don't...

Going to http://www.mysticbbs.com (or the wiki) gives this error:

    *Bandwidth Limit Exceeded*

The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to the site
owner reaching his/her bandwidth limit. Please try again later.

It's been like this for the last few hours.

This has happened in the past when g00r00 is busy building new alphas and there
are more files to download. I must have downloaded 5 or so copies this month.. :). Avon did have a mirror online that we could download from and save the Mystic BBS website from getting too much traffic.

Avon: Is that site still available?

That's understandable, odd that in this day and age *Bandwidth Limit
Exceeded* is still a thing, though.

If he needs a new host for his stuff, I highly recommend OVH as they offer unlimited bandwidth and are like USD $3.49/mo for a vps with 2ghz CPU, 2GB
RAM, 20GB SSD storage and unlimited bandwidth. I'm very happy with them.

Actually, I'm not just saying that for his benefit, I'd recommend this for anyone who wants a vps. It's such a good deal. *knock on wood* I haven't had any issues with them.

Anyway, hope he gets back online soon. =)

Yep, it is still a thing. I have bandwidth limits too but my little operation here doesn't even come close to them.. :)

I must have a closer look at this. Who is OVH and where do I find them?

ATM I'm using linode.com. For $5 a month I get 1Ghz CPU, 1GB RAM and 25 GB storage. It works well for the BBS but I will look at OVH.

www.ovh.com - they're french apparently, although I thought they were
canadian when I first started using them when I was living in the US...
    they're just awesome.

Linode I hear are great too, but definitely check out OVH. You might get a better deal, not knowing what you get with linode of course.

Let me know what you think.

Yep it is, and we've hit it before so I've had to reach out to the host to allocate more. I'll do the same hopefully it will go well.

Its odd to me because it feels like the least amount of people are using Mystic than maybe ever, but bandwidth usage suggests otherwise!

I will have to look into it too maybe for my own BBS. But as far as mysticbbs.com itself, I worry that moving that to a VPS like that would cause problems not with bandwidth, but with bandwidth caps in speed.

I think a lot of the bandwidth unlimited VPS packages put some pretty major caps on how much bandwidth you can use at once so that even if you were downloading 24/7 for a month you wouldn't use a lot. This works fine for a BBS, but for hosting mysticbbs.com that is already busy enough to hit bandwidth caps, I worry it'd be too slow.

Fingers crossed it all goes ok then. You don't realise how much you need something until you can't get at it

Well I don't have anything that would put too much stress on my VPS, a few websites, a minecraft server (for my kids, honestly), the uk hub for tqwNet, and it has the ability to download and upload at 100Mbps... other than that I don't know.

interesting. if you don't mind me asking, what sort of figures are we talking about here?

I don't have the information in front of me so I can't really give you an answer at the moment.

I think the introduction of the Wiki a while back probably upped the bandwidth usage quite a bit, though I never really looked into the impact it had.

It just feels odd now like I said. This has happened before but I feel Mystic's popularity feels has waned a bit with so many other new BBS packages out there (and 1.12 becoming pretty stable) compared to those days.

It's weird as I think it's not explainable that so much bandwidth would have perhaps just tipped things over a limit like that.. I wonder if it's BOT scraping things or something similar that could account for it. From memory
in recent years we have only seen this once before and also towards the end
    of a month..

It just feels odd now like I said. This has happened before but I feel Mystic's popularity feels has waned a bit with so many other new BBS packages out there (and 1.12 becoming pretty stable) compared to those days.

I wouldn't say the popularity is on the wane but I agree it's odd.

It never got a lot of use, so I deleted it and put a VPS with Magicka BBS
there instead. Maybe I'll install another minecraft server on the VPS I
have on the other host. That VPS has 3GB RAM and tons of disk space,
and I only have a blog that's not really used on there now.

It was going to be my streamer blog, but since I'm no longer streaming, it's just sitting there. I tried to cancel that account, but they lowered the monthly to $3, so it was hard to get refuse. :)
