• Guest account?

From Necromaster@21:1/122 to All on Thursday, November 10, 2016 20:00:00
How would I go about creating a guest account on Mystic? also, would it be limited on the number of people who could connect to it at one time? Thanks

Under Configuration > Login/Matrix Settings, if you want sysop level and
guest access to have multiple login access, you'd set an OR and the user
    number of the guest account.

Mine is s255|U2 for security level 255 OR user 2

By guest, I'm assuming you mean that the only thing a person needs to do is sign in as 'guest' and no need for a password? I don't think that Mystic offers that.

But, you can create a guest account with a known password if you want. Just display the password on your login screen.

then you have to make the guest account with a certain setting. Like S1 and maybe some specific flag settings. Then you lock down all the menu options so that you can limit what the guest user does.

For instance, if your guest account has a security level of 1, then you make all your relevant menu options be s2 or maybe s10. You'll only need to do that on menu options for posting or maybe playing games.

You can have a separate menu altogether too. In your prelogin, instead of going to main, you can have them to go a guest menu. You'd do that based on seclev.

I believe u can set multple logins per user account.. so just create a Guest user and look at all the available user flags

In my case I created an account called guest with a password of guest

I set security to 10 so the account would have same privs as a new
    unvalidated user to my BBS

I also set an A flag in the Flags #1

    [snip]

    Security ³ 10
    Flags #1 ³ A---------
    Flags #2 ³ ----------

    [snip]

I did this as I have created a file called FLAG1A.ASC and FLAG1A.ANS that
    sits in the mystic\text directory

This contains a message that is displayed only to the guest user on their login. It talks about what access they have etc. and invites them to register etc. for a regular account.

    Hope that helps :)

    Best, Paul

My 10 security forbids message posts and file transfers until upgraded
to a lvl 20. This is a good method you have here Master YODA for a guest account. In a dark place we find ourselves, and a little more knowledge lights our way.

Create the account guest with password guest, it's limited by the number of connections one person (or account) can make - on mine two at a time. That is controlled by Configuration, Servers, Telnet Server: Dupe IP Limit 2.
Generally you also want guest to be s10 so they can't really cause trouble
but can see almost everything. That will be the default, so you don't have to set that.

Not really true, one login is the default, but Configuration, Servers, Telnet Server Options, Dupe IP Limit controls that. I run 2 so you can be logged in twice on my BBS, you can make it whatever you want up to the number of nodes. In truth you can set it higher than the number of nodes, but then the number
of nodes limits it. The Dup IP Limit exists for both mis & mis2 and they are seperate (could have different numbers on each server).
