• Fidopoll busy

Don't know what was really up last night, just before midnight I was seeing: Nov 08 23:29:35 FIDOPOLL Version 1.12 A31
    Nov 08 23:29:35 Scanning 21:1/100
    Nov 08 23:29:35 21:1/100 is busy; skipping
    Nov 08 23:29:35 Scanning 80:774/0
    Nov 08 23:29:35 80:774/0 is busy; skipping
    Nov 08 23:29:35 Polled 0 nodes
But the next log entries at 12:04:51 AM showed just fine and has worked since. I did nothing - so Hack/crack attacks? Anyone else getting 'busy' last night
or the same time where you are? I was able to log on the Agency even when I
was seeing the 'busy' so I don't know what the cause was yet.

Nah mostly that meant you had a bsy file in the folder and it was removed
after it was done, the outbound folder for the network. I had seen this
    before and can happen. :P

That makes for quite a bug, fail one poll, fail them all till you kill it. I put in an Event to do just that at Noon & Midnight as I had no polling set
for then. So that's what fixed it.

I have a script when I poll to check for the fidopoll.bsy and clear it since then I had not had the issue, this was when I found MIS/MIS2 crashing a lot
and found out it left bsy files everywhere.

    Cheers!

Just for anybody else running into this... I figured out I could do a
fidopoll killbusy - it is described on the "Mystic Ecosystem" page of the Mystic BBS Wiki.

Yeppers! I actually run this on Windows startup, since I have the BBS VM restart every two weeks to give it that "fresh Windows smell", and since I can't figure out how to shut down MIS gracefully, this does the trick to make sure everything's hunky-dory on startup.

Nice idea, but no that didn't do it. I could type ./fidopoll killbusy for
hours and nothing happened to this one! Ended up having to delete the flag, then do the killbusy to make sure then I could poll again and if it hung (because fsxnet was down due to power outage) it would stay hung till I
deleted the flag and cleared the hang. Had to fight it all 6 hours fsxnet was down - I could have dropped it out of the poll, but as I suspected it came
back before I got around to that.

rm -rf /mystic/semaphore/fidopoll.bsy #blindly kill it
    ./fidopoll killbusy #make sure
    ls /mystic/semaphore # show semaphores

That's what I ended up doing over and over again to get fidopoll to work. It didn't always hang that way first time, but it did always hang that way so ./fidopoll killbusy did nothing. I think it was repeated fidopoll's while one was busy causing the hang. Normally fidopoll doesn't take that long so the problem doesn't happen. What the flag was made to prevent was causing the
hang (race condition I think). Need to make a more complex script to handle that, basically check if ./fidopoll killbusy works to get rid of the flag and if it doesn't then do the rm -rf /mystic/semaphore/fidopoll.bsy and check
again (for the flag). If the flag is gone then your OK and can let things go back to normal.

...who will with the race the flag or the poll? [The hang it appears]
