• backspace not working

From bamageek@21:1/140 to All on Monday, February 04, 2019 20:27:22
I had this issue before when setting up the BBS but I can't remember how I fixed it. When I log in to the BBS the backspace key doesn't work. Anyone
    know how to fix this?

Different terminals handle backspace differently, so there isn't enough
details to know what your issue is. How are you logging in and with what terminal?

I'm running the Raspberry Pi telnet program (eg "telnet davesbbs.com") I can use the arrow key to backspace on my keyboard and hit the delete button to delete what I messed up on, just cumbersom that I can't get the backspace button to work.

Its tough to think of where to start because it could be a lot of different things and I don't have a Pi available at the moment to take a look at the options on a Pi.

Clients either send CTRL+H or CTRL+? when backspace is pressed and it seems the telnet client is sending something different than what Mystic is detecting.

If you are running in a terminal window inside of a GUI desktop then often times Linux terminal windows have the ability to set how backspace behaves. Another possible option could be the TERM environment variable setting.

If I can tomorrow I'll boot up my Pi and see if I can look at the options.

Are you telnetting into your own BBS from your Pi? If so you could try a terminal that is made for using a BBS like Mystic's NodeSpy to see if that makes a difference.

You should be able to do CTRL+H to do what your backspace key should do, in terminals the backspace key should send a CTRL+H IIRC.
