Noticed when using the indexed message reader, if I read a new message from
the middle of the list, all the new messages before it get marked as read.

Is it supposed to do that?

    Hello nathanael,

Yes, that is based on your last read pointer.

GoldED works in a similar way to the index reader and behaves the same way.

Kind of inconvenient if I don't want to read new messages in order.

There is a /NOLR option that I use on my personal scan options so my last read pointer doesn't get set when I do a personal scan. I've never tried it but it might be possible to use it in the index reader.

Always does that for me, so I assume it is as expected..

Yes, it saves your last read message only. Whether or not each individual message has been read is not tracked.
