Curious, is there a way to add a dial-up line to mystic? I don't think I ever heard or read anybody talking or asking about it.

I can't say whether Mystic has this functionality built in. If it doesn't, you could always just use SEXPOTS and point it at your Mystic BBS; it's fairly agnostic about what's on the other end of the telnet connection.

Yes, it can be done. You can use SEXPOTS (from Synchronet), or Linux users can use mgetty as an alternative.

That's what someone suggested to me in the Mystic FB group, to use sexpots.
2 projects I'm gonna be working on soon. adding a dial-up line for mystic and Synchronet. :)

Yeah, I did see something on this a while back, but can't recall there.

I actually found a old Win Modem laying around the house. I installed the modem, and linux sees it on the device list. I have to figure out how to tell linux that it's a modem now. Since modems are kinda outdated, gonna prolly
be a challenge to find any good stuff on google...

If Linux sees it and you can access it as a device, you're in good shape. Unlike Windows, Unix/Linux was built around modems and other similar tech.

Depends on what you are trying to do with it. If you want to dial into a
Linux shell, I think I used mgetty to do that.

At one point a couple friends and I operated the first commercial ISP on Long Island (NY), cosmic.com, using a few 486s running Slackware and some modems,

The key is knowing with /dev/ttySx <where x being the com port number)
your modem is sitting on in the device table. A quick 'lspci' (if
installed) should do the trick, as well as a 'dmesg'.

Depends on what you are trying to do with it. If you want to dial into a Linux shell, I think I used mgetty to do that.

I remember I used uugetty for that (Slackware) - must have been in 1997/1998.
A friend of mine created some local websitebbsthingie which you could access
by connecting via PPP. So what you had to do as a user was setting up the connection (PPP) - then you had to start Netscape and enter the URL. Most
users didnt understand the procedure so it was dead within a few months, but very fun todo.
