• Fidonet setup help

From MeaTLoTioN@21:1/158 to All on Saturday, September 08, 2018 19:10:26
    Hi guys,

Wonder if anyone here has experience and a little time to help me get my MysticBBS config working with my Fidonet setup.

I have just been granted a node on Fidonet (2:250/5) and have set it all up using my RetroNet and fsxNet configs as a rough template. I have manually set up 1 message base, and manage to send and receive Netmails from individual people with my new Fidonet node, however when sending to Areafix/FileFix to
my Fido hub, my request goes out, the hub can see it, and responds with the answer to my request, I can even see in the logs it coming back in, however
it doesn't show in my Netmail message base.

The individual messages show up no problem in my Netmail base, just not the responses to Areafix/Filefix.

    Any ideas?

I managed to send a %+ALL to Areafix, and then a little while later I managed to get a message back from a base that I hadn't manually created, and Mystic created it for me perfectly, as expected, however I just cannot get the
Netmail response from the Fidonet hub.

Sorry for the long message, hoping that someone on here has experienced this before and knows what I have messed up.

    Thanks in advance.
    Christian.

One possibility. Is the netmail addressed to you or an unknown name?

If it's addressed to "Sysop" you may need to add a forward to your mutil.ini that you use to import mail.

Sorry for the long message, hoping that someone on here has experienced this before and knows what I have messed up.

Be as long winded as you need to be.

I have never experienced this but I have gotten netmail that was not addressed to me and have needed to add a forward before.. :)

At least you got a response. It has been more than two weeks now for me and
the US and I haven't gotten that yet. I sent a message and the person said
    they are probably busy.

    Bingo!

I had to pry open (not really pry) the returned messages in the /mystic/msgs/ folder to see the plain text file holding ALL the messages for Netmail, and
low and behold, there was a spelling mistake for my name, so I made another forward to forward the wrong spelling to the right one and it worked, and
then I emailed the zone controller to get them to change the spelling, and
    now it all works! :)

Happy days. Troubleshooting went pretty well seeing as it's all working a
    treat now.

Thanks for the suggestion. You were absolutely 100% correct.

It took me about 2 weeks or so to get someone to get back to me and then a
few games of email tag before I even got a node... but since getting the
node today, emailing back and forth was very quick and now I'm all set up.

Good luck with your setup. :)

    Best regards,

How did you apply for a node? Was it via email?
I used the online form, found here:
    http://www.filegate.net/zone1/bnbform.html

If you get stuck, and didn't try that form, perhaps you could try that form?

I am in zone 1 and was told RJ Clay (James) was supposed to reach out to me.

I just had a look at the fsxNet nodelist and I see you are in Wisconsin. Have you tried to contact Nickolas Boel? He is NC of net 154.

This is his nodelist info for 154/0 and 154/10.

    Host,154,Wisconsin,Pewaukee_WI,Nicholas_Boel,-Unpublished-,300,CM,INA:binkp.pha rcyde.org,IBN ,10,The_Pharcyde_HUB,Pewaukee_WI,Nicholas_Boel,-Unpublished-,300,CM,INA:binkp.p harcyde.org,IBN

Nick is a long time sysop. Very knowledgeable in all things BBS and networks. I haven't seen him about in some time though.. I hope life hasn't sent him a curve.

RJ Clay is the coordinator of region 11. If you are having any trouble getting nodelisted you could reach out to him directly. The last time (a long time ago) I contacted RJ I used 1:120/544, the nodelist info is below.

    ,544,ftn.rocasa.net,Lansing_MI,RJ_Clay,000-198-144-184-12,300,XX,CM,MO,INA:ftn. rocasa.net,IBN,IFC,ITN:60177,PING

I'm sure of of those two can get you going in the right direction.

If not there are others we can contact as well.

Nick is also a node in fsxNet but I agree with you Al his level of BBS
activity has reduced. I did see a post form him in Agoranet a few weeks back but by and large his involvement in all things BBS has dropped away over the last year or so as other interests prevailed. Best bet would be to email him.

The domain you provided to me on Combatnet is still is not responding: bbs.thehomesteadinghipppy.com.

Avon had informed me that searchbbs was still accessing fsxnet and after I looked I saw you had a fsxnet sub-domain.
