It doesn't buffer as much as my old roku did. Roku has been moved to
    the bedroom.

Used to have one of those I loaned a former roommate. She walked off with it. Several months after this...called Amazon tech support & they remotely bricked it. Usually playing with computers for around 40 or so years...I brick something...I'm pissed & worried I won't be able to afford to
    replace it.

Can they reactivate the device at a later time with their own credit card?

This time...when I heard they deactivated it...was smiles for
at least a couple of days...since on a Friday night...her kids were watching something & in the middle of that...the device bricks. ;D

How did you learn when that happend? Did you get a call from your former roomate? I can only imagine what the conversation was like. <G> Was she expecting free service for life after walking off with the unit?

Is that the basic one for $39.99?

Why did you decide upon the firestick vs just getting another roku?

I didn't realize the firestick can plug directly into the HDMI on a tv.
So, then basically you can then stream anything that the stick is pre- configured to allow? Can you stream custom feeds, like audio only?

Got one of these about 3 years ago..

    https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00MQGCLUI/ ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It seems to be the same thing repacked and rebranded by others too:

Mine doesn't cooperate with my Tv's HDMI (I tried all the frequencies),
but the USB and SD card support is great. It will play practically any
media format I give it. The 3 cable (video-out + audio-L and audio-R) is good enough on my modest 32" LED screen, and 720i vs 1080i is very noticeable.

Before that, I burned video to DVD and watched material that way. The
little media player saved a lot of time and burning!

I'm curious, too - I just bought the basic Roku for $24.99; we're
phasing out cable in our house and looking for free/streaming
content. The Roku has a ton of content; I'm still sorting it all out.

As soon as I can get locast to work with my VPN to get me San
Francisco stations, I think I'll totally get rid of cable.

No the 4k one because it has more RAM. I bought what my BIL told me
    too. :)

Why did you decide upon the firestick vs just getting another roku?

It supports my illegal IPTV service. ;) (over 4k channels for $15 CAD)

pre- configured to allow? Can you stream custom feeds, like audio
    only?

I used the alexia voice thing and played a radio station... Seems to
be tons of apps / ways to side load apps.

Before that, I burned video to DVD and watched material that way. The little media player saved a lot of time and burning!

I run a plex server for downloaded things.

Nope. I reported & shown it was stolen because it was on my Amazon
account...so they can buy a new firestick...but if I ever got it back...I
could reactivate it myself. Just a piece of junk.

Was on the horn with tech support for almost an hour. They told me the stick had been deactivated when they did it. Of course...the best part is she probably thought I had forgotten all about it.

Was she expecting free service for life after walking off with the unit?

She's 1 of these persons who have never had to face reality because there was always someone there to make sure she didn't.

Hated that when Roku blocked my Channel Pear TWICE & a bunch of other stuff like you're talking about.

Thanks for the tip on locast. I had never heard of it and it looks like Phoenix is covered.

    Thanks,
