Perhaps it would be a good idea to change subject lines when the topic

while back, and it's something I've been lazy about myself.

    HI from 1/100

Looks like one packet I sent in was tossing OK according to the MUTIL logs
but the 4 messages in the JAM base look totally borked and unreadable here.

I have started a process to capture incoming packets should this happen again and I suspect it will.

    Meat.

I've been wanting to post some instructional information on the aviation echo with some ansi and have had trouble figuring out how to translate the ansi files to the encoding chars so they render properly.

    What offline readers support ANSI?

I checked out some of the messages with ANSI directly on a BBS. The
    results were not the best:

    Hello Ogg,

    What offline readers support ANSI?

Multimail does. Press "V" when reading a message with ansi codes.

I checked out some of the messages with ANSI directly on a BBS. The results were not the best:

    http://pics.rsh.ru/img/fsx-star1_ov87iywl.png

    http://pics.rsh.ru/img/ansi2_h5qkx0iy.png
    http://pics.rsh.ru/img/ansi3_yau1hrjn.png

Mystic and Synchronet render ansi messages as expected as far as I have seen. When using Synchronet I often have to use the backscroll to view ansi messages.

Some BBSs like MBSE work well as long as the message body doesn't mess with the
    header display.

Other BBSs like BBBS doesn't even attempt to handle ansi at all.

    Ttyl :-),

Multimail can view ANSI (use the V key while viewing the message), and I recall Bluewave having an ANSI viewer. However, editing ANSI replies is a totally different issue - no OLR that I know of can do that.

    What offline readers support ANSI?

Multimail, which is currently supported and can do QWK and Bluewave.
SLMR, which is an orphanware QWK reader.

Mystic and Synchronet render ansi messages as expected as far as I

    view ansi messages.

Those WERE displayed on a Synchronet bbs: Palantir.

    with the header display.

As you could see those images wanted to overtake the header area. But
none of them could be viewed in one piece.

I was using NetRunner. Would that contribute to part of that problem?

Other BBSs like BBBS doesn't even attempt to handle ansi at all.

I don't see ansi in messages to catch on with new people. The ansi can
look great on boards, in menus, etc. But the non-uniform compatibility across different systems in message ares is not flattering to the artform.

That's not the default synchronet message reader, unless it's changed dramatically since I last checked. The default synchronet message reader
works fine. (Are you sure it's Palantir? The screenshots say Danger Bay)

    Unlikely.

That is why we're supposed to prefix them here with [ANSI] so those who
use obscure systems can skip over them.

ANSI shouldn't be used for text messages - and I think there is an
annoying side effect to uploading messages in Mystic that sets it as
ANSI and all the capital letters are highlighted.

I don't really see a problem though 99% of "new people" are using either
mystic or synchronet - both of which display ansi fine.

I never thought that it might have something to do with the "shell". I should probably switch to the Synchro-style and compare.

Thanks. I was just curious about seeing ansi working right.

In messages? I'll try it, again.

Even for those people using offline mail (like me) I just have to hit
ALT-V to view the message. Never really bothers me... I just don't
quote anything if I have to reply.
