I sometimes think we could also use a test area in the net. Not that I would disallow test posts but in times of testing like I think we are about to put alterego's test bot to the test it might be better to have
a test area for those instead of using the FSX_GEN area. It can be disruptive at times.

Accepting that the FSX_GEN will always be a place that testing is welcome.
I'm open to this idea also. Can I have a show of hands who would like this
and alterego's test bot would be better suited to it's own special echo? :)

I think "test" posts should definitely have their own dedicated
echo. I find them distracting and they tend to make me skip
reading all of the other posts in the echo, simply due to volume.

Perhaps this echo could/should be renamed to "General Chat" or
similar if you do create a seperate Test echo.

I would support an FSX_TEST echo.

It would serve the purpose for people like me who like to tinker and occasionally send out random tests & appreciate the robot's response, but
also don't want to flood _GEN.

I like the idea of also having new nodes say "Hi!" in _GEN as well, as when I first joined and sent a test I received a lot of friendly hellos and welcomes.

Agree with this one, would be better having its own area for TESTS & stuff.
It does tend to clutter GENERAL chat alot.

If the echo would be used to get automated responses from the BOT, couldn't
we use the existing BOT echo?

While we could do this I lean towards a dedicated echo also for testing and
bot replies (if the group wants / decides it's warranted) only because I see the BOT echo full of interesting stuff to read such as ads, reports posted by BOTS. If we had testing in that echo we would also have to wade through
non-BOT posts as folks posted their test posts...

So for me it's more about keeping it clean and clear.

I think it depends on the level of testing going on. If you're just poking ¨the bear to determine connectivity all good. If like some of my recent ones ¨your belting your system into shape when there's many and they're junk a ¨seperate echo would be nice. Although you could just drop them into bot I ¨s'pose.

Well, that would be true if it was just you. When there are 5-6
people doing it, and they all get 3-4 replies, it becomes....
    clutter.

That doesn't make sense either, since they're not from bots.

All good, thanks ... it's looking like the creation of this echo is strongly supported thus far.

I'd agree on having an FSX_TEST echo (though perhaps problematic for people following your Youtube videos), though how about it being the "Test and welcome" sub? Not that welcomes would be disallowed elsewhere; just that encouraging people to engage with the testers seems like a good thing.

...though that kind of reminds me of making mission statements, where people spend an inordinate amount of time on something almost completely valueless.

Test area aside, I'm uncertain about adding other subs. Not because they're inherently bad; just because I kinda view checking FSXnet messages as a task
in itself, so adding additional general forums seems only helpful if it gives me something to skip because I'm not interested in the topic. But they all sound fairly general, so I'll probably just skip based on the threads anyway.

This, of course, is not a strenuous objection. And if it makes people more likely to engage, that's probably a solid benefit.

They must annoy you more than me :) I don't seem to recall 5-6 at a time

Well while thats true, its probably one of the least likely spots to be interfereing with other people. Which is why I went with test would be nicer, in lieu of it bots is probably about the best option visible.
