So the MBBSEmu (Major BBS Emulation) project is pretty cool. It's really focused on getting the modules (doors) running, not recreating a full BBS experience... and there's already quite a few modules the author has working already. The Patreon approach I think is pretty awesome way to support it!

I'm sure more than a few of us here are already backers, and there have been posts about it before on fsxNet (ryan, i think?) but my latest convo with
Eric Nusbaum today confirms he's interested in working toward enabling door server-like capabilities (e.g. like doorparty, or BBSLink) where accounts can be auto created using an API. Which is super-rad.

I've got a couple of the MBBSEmu modules up and running on Card & Claw BBS. Check it out in the [D] Door Area, which you can telnet to a MBBSEmu
    instance:

    Cheers!

Yep, this is the most exciting recent BBS related development I've seen. I'm very hyped about it :)

What I would be really interested in is having a full pass through from my mystic bbs to an mbbs door - I'm hoping once the author figures out more of
the mbbs APIs for the games to actually function, he can spend a bit more
time on the door server functionality. In an ideal scenario, it's totally transparent to the user, and everything can happen automagically :)

Sounds like he's interested in doing that in the near future (post-April)
with the API. I agree, if that happens--it's like 10-15 door games that have been rarely played over the past decade or longer. He also says if he gets a couple hundred backers, he'll try to buy the IP from Galacticomm... Ha... Pretty amazing that he's essentially reverse engineering it all.

I did notice that there must be some sort of memory leak in MBBEmu, or maybe it's just a memory hog, but performance degrades for me over time, starts to become unresponsive and unusable. And since it's on the same desktop VM as my BBS, I had to take it down. Was going to put it on a proper server and see if that solves the problem...

Yeah, pretty awesome stuff. And some of the doorgames we know and love have some differences in the MBBS version which are enough to warrant their own
play as well (like T-LORD, TW2002, Lunatix).

I'm not sure I understand the value in buying the IP from Galacticomm unless
he plans to opensource MBBS or something which seems like a pretty hefty expense just to satisfy curiosity.

I asked him if he'd be willing to consider extending the MBBS door server capability to also function with TBBS/TDBS doors. There are some pretty cool exclusives there as well that most people have likely never heard of :)

Flag it to him! I'm sure he needs to know these things. The MBBSEmu site has
a place where you can flag this stuff, I think.
