If you're following along at home have a look at covid19.govt.nz for an
idea of what my country is up to. A new alert/level system started today which I think helps to communicate the level of severity and what people
can expect to be able to do (or not).

The situation in New Zealand continues to worsen but not in an uncontrolled fashion. In fact I think our government is doing a good
job and working to preempt some of the dramas facing other countries
right now e.g. Italy. Time will tell.
Italy (which had a very highly rated health care system) and China (covering it up for over a month) are two examples of how not to handle it.

Hmm dunno about Italy, they didn't appear to get a lot of warning.. it just took off. One of their biggest problems is the bulk of their population is old,
so many many more cases require more and longer ICU time. Stories
appear about
them having full units, someone dies, its one out, one in. Australia despite no being in such a bad situtation over all, also has quite an
old population as
well. So I expect we'll see plenty of deaths here once it gets
going.

Thanks for the well wishes and condolences, really appreciated and have passed them along to my wife who also says thank you :)
Well job application is now in, so waiting to see how that goes. I guess if I make it to the interview stage I should know in the next couple of week or so.
Life in New Zealand is fairly normal as we have COVID-19 under control with no signs of community transmission here for I think 80+ days now. There are reports of 1-2 cases most days from folks in managed isolation coming in from overseas and being picked up at the border.
New Zealand borders remain closed to all overseas visitors and have been for a few months now. Only returning New Zealanders are allowed back,
and flights bookings inbound are managed and limited in numbers.
Everyone coming in has to spend 14 days in managed isolation and gets tested day 3 and 12.

Got hit by an unplanned powercut last night, it nuked the box I use to play back music on my LPFM station. Been trying to bring it back but no joy.
Got my fingers crossed.. :)
Good luck!
Oh no! For some reason I think that's happened before? Or maybe to
someone else.
I've been resting a little. Made a QWK mail reader, worked on Titan BBS
a bit and set up a new one >.> but it's a secret for now.
Mostly playing the Elder Scrolls Online again. Oh and cleaning... we had to clean for our routine inspection tomorrow.
Got my fingers crossed.. :)
Made a shortlist .. so that's something I guess, interview in the next couple of weeks I think..
There are a ton of other updates I need to do for NET 3 which I am going to need to catch up with Deon on then amend the nodelist for. Apologies.
My thanks to Deon, Dan, Todd and Ruben for their continued support and assistance in running the network. It's very much appreciated.
Friday, we had some good news. My wife's scans don't show any signs of remaining cancer so far, so they are cautiously optimistic.
So, I'm trying to prepare myself mentally for the fact that it doesn't look like my father will be around much longer.

However, last night I got a message from my mom that my dad had fallen
at home and had to be taken to the hospital. had hit the arm that broke and had the rod in it. Then later, she told me they had found a blood clot in his lung, and it appears the cancer has spread to his brain.

I lost my day 12 years ago from prostate cancer, they said he might live
a year, he ended up living 5 years from his diagnoses. Cherish the time you have left and remember him fondly after he is gone.
Now, The hospital has sent my father home for home hospice, and they

My sister is flying in from Germany, two of my dad's brothers were
driving in
today from Kansas. His sister and her husband are driving in tomorrow.
It used to be a running joke that this side of the family only gathers together for weddings and funerals.
No one is laughing right now.

I lost my wife to cancer 5 years ago. If there is an option of a hospice house, I would recommend it. Things... change. You will know when it is time.

Mines the same, I have family I haven't seen since my Grandmothers funeral, I also have no idea how I might even get in touch with any of them these day

Yes, it's definitely a running joke in my family. Sadly, the ratio of funerals to weddings is likely to increase in the future. But we have been keeping up the supply of weddings (including mine in 2018 :) ). :)

At the end of the day, the four of us are sitting in the office
talking. My dad and his cousin are talking about people and places and the usual, "Do you remeber.." update type things, going back about a decade. It had been about that long since they saw each other.

It's going to be rough going. Here's wishing you well as you
wade through the waves of emotion and reach the point when
weight of it all eases up.
He passed Monday morning. My sister told me it was peaceful.

We knew it was going to be quick, but were figuring a week or so. not 3 days.
I'm still in shock I'm sure. 36 days from learning he had cancer to him being gone.
Cancer fucking sucks. It took my first wife, I nearly lost my wife now
to it in November, and now my father. Not to mention other family over the yeats.

I'm sure your father felt the same way: death is but a pittance for
having kept such beautiful an acquaintance.

the words that you do - I intend on finding them.

I went back Sunday, and things were somewhat of a madhouse. The peopl from Hospice hadn't delivered some things yet. One of my brothers, t one that I shared the video a while back that promotes local business in theirvarea, has a friend he went to school with that owns a medica supply company. After a phone call to him, he met my brother and my dad's sister, who is a nurse, at his shop, and opened it up for them let us have whatever we neeedec0d for my dad. Dad was in a lot if discomfort, and the cancer was spreading so fast. you couldn't touch anywhere without hurting him. We got everything done to get him comfortable and set up to where hopefully we wouldn't have to move hi I stayed until he looked to be resting comfortably.
Then Monday, morning while I was feeding my dogs, my brother called t let me know my father was gone.
We knew it was going to be quick, but were figuring a week or so. not days.

Although I've never lost anyone to cancer, I've lost both of my parents
at a young age. My dad died in 2010 from heart failure when I was 14,
and my mom died in 2019 when I was 22 from kidney failure. The latter I still feel is my fault since I put her through a lot during my school years after dad died, and my mental development having been stunted (I feel) until recent years didn't help with her healthcare.
My deepest sympathies to you and your loved ones. I hope your dad rests
in peace - I'll pray to my mom and dad to send a warm welcome.
Born too late to experience the scene.
Born just in time to see it come back.

Humm.... that's about it for now. I'd best get back to the admin stuff. Will post an update later of removals and an addition.
stay/visit to the hospital had her gall bladder taken out. She's spent
the last 7 days with us at home and today we're taking her back to her apartment.
My youngest son called us yesterday morning (my Saturday... as it's
Sunday here as I write this) to say he was also in the hospital
emergency department with breathing issues. So we shot down again to the
antibiotics and they think it's bad bronchitis brought on by the crappy student flat he is living in.
Work has been busy, we've had several changes in senior management
roles. The rest of us are wondering what changes are coming next.
I'm more aware of the passage of time these days and the loss some of the people I know/work with etc. feel as their parents pass away :(
Best wishes.
Hope your daughter is recovering quickly, and glad to hear your son is doing OK.. Is that going to motivate the landlords to do something about his place, or does it mean he'll be moving?
Enjoy your time with your folks too.

are getting pretty frail, hard to see them like this, but they are
still mobile and reasonably ailment free, so that's good.
My wife's step-dad has stage 4 cancer, last time I saw him he had a
cough, now it looks like it won't be much longer. He's on an
experimental (hail-mary) treatment, so who knows. He's a good, kind man and really sucks to see people suffer. We had a good, long chat about
his childhood. Just want to be the one who listens right now.
I started a new BBS game project, this time in Lua! I typically flame
out in the home stretch (always thinking -- no one cares, it's dumb,
who will play it, etc.) but given it's a good excuse to learn more programming, I'm optimistic I'll finish this one! It's called "Dungeon Dice" and it's meant a procedural dungeon crawl, a roguelike, where movement is determined by a dice roll, you just pick the direction and
the encounters resolve as you meander toward the exit and hope you survive. Of course, only Talisman sysops will be able to run it (Lua)
but want to make it a add-on for this awesome BBS system.
I also closed down "Sysop Help Desk" on Discord. Too many things to manage/promote, and since Apam has a Matrix channel for Talisman
support, that's good enough for me!
If you don't mind me asking, how did you accomplish this. I can access
MRC from my Mystic but not from Talisman (where I spend more time) :-)

I've been working in Riverside (not currently, but I'll probably be
back in
January at some point), and having gone there, it's interesting to
learn
exactly how much it is not close to Los Angeles at all.
Small world!!
Riverside likes to think it's in the "LA area" but it's not! I always fly into Ontario, only about 25 mins to downtown from there.
