• Clone II+

From Spectre@21:3/101 to Nobody on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 05:47:00
A little while back I came home with a II+ clone, to keep CloneE company, and despite being pretty clean and tidy it had a dead power supply in it. Well I've
been having an attack of the can't sleeps so instead of rolling around in bed,
I got up and did something useful. Washed the dishes, folded the washing, put
the lot away and cobbled together an ATX power supply for Clone+ as repairing the existing one is well beyond my meager skills.

For testing I decided to run with a newly acquired green screen, because I hate
my usual amber one. Plug it all in, power it on... fan comes on in the power supply... good o', there's enough load to start it up. But the green screen is just rolling and wobbling and not having a good time of it. After a bit I realised while plugging the power in, I'd left the video lead haning out on the
table. But that didn't make to much difference, got a picture change so there was some kind of signal, but it wouldn't sync to it. In the end I popped old Amber on there and found a nasty looking picture. It still bucked and wobbled so the signal is wonky, and the image instead of being Apple // is in fact a big white screen with a ! about 5 chars in on the top row.

Bugger. I'd been living in hopes it was just going to work. Well aside from running around puling all the chips giving them a clean, and banging some contact cleaner in the sockets. Usually one of the first things to try is pulling all but the first 16k of ram and see if it'll boot. Luckily its got a good supply of 4116's in it. 48k on the motherboard and an extra 16k on a memory card. Well it looks like that might be later todays job. Clean up and memory check. I finally feel like going back to bed.... nearly 6 hrs later..

Doing the domestic work took time away from your repairing the Clone+. The dishes/washing will always be there...but you will never recapture that time
in working on the Clone+. In terms of COVID-19...even I'm resetting my priorities on working on the Lenovo...rather than doing housework. Hope I was able to help you reassess your priorities. ;D On the other hand...I'm not married or have a family...so not doing housework isn't going to get me

Bummer about that, would have been good to have a working clone.

COVID may give me an opportunity to working on projects that have been shelved for a while. If I have to stay in, I will need to do something useful, and building projects/playing ham radio will be good candidates. :)

I've noticed FTN has been rather lively the past couple weeks. That's a positive!

It's also given me enough of an excuse to work on my BBS and hopefully
    actually open it up soon.

Not doing them doesn't get me chewed out, but its quite often the case of if you want it done right, do it yourself and you know they've done it. I ended up
washing someone elses idea of washed dishes in the dish rack :/

I really have to get my eyes tested again. Its been about 3 years since it was
last done. And while up to this point my eyes haven't changed and had the same
+1.5 prescription since highschool, I'm suddenly finding I can't read small and low contrast text very well. So doing something else like the dishes gives the peepers a break when they start to feel the strain.

I didn't feel like starting to pull all the chips out of Clone+ and then play jigsaw and put them back at ~4:30am.. I sat down and read the last messages for
the night, put the dishes away and had a crack at going to bed about 5:30am..no sleep, SWMBO arrived home about 7, dropped #1 son off to school, then we've been shopping all morning... Frankston, Carrum Downs and Dandenong..
so yeah life gets in the way of the fun sometimes :/

NS!!! Is the same age as myself & born 1 day/1 year before me. If I had hair & only a moustache...he would look like me. DAMN...I found this & it was hard
to believe...but have seen some folks do stuff like this as well:

Boon is said to have consumed 52 cans of beer on a flight from Sydney to
London in 1989. This has never been confirmed by Boon, although the feat was confirmed by his teammate Geoff Lawson and his room mate on that tour, Dean Jones. Responding to the story, Ian Chappell said, "In my day 58 [sic] beers between London and Sydney would have virtually classified you as a teetotaller." Boon has always denied the story, adding "If people haven’t got something else to talk about they have led a fucking boring life",but, as Rob Smyth reported in The Guardian, "there are enough witnesses, one or two of them sober, to suggest that it happened".

Gah I hate plastic utensils... at different times I have actually

Part of the issue is had a former roommate who was too cheap to buy his own stuff...so he stole mine. Just easier to go with plastic. Should have just
did a "trouser clean" with the dishes before he walked off with them. ;)

Exactly how it started with me in my mid-40's. Thought I was actually

True...but at least the issues I have could be taken care of with Lasik...but being pre-diabetic & not caring what anyone says about what I look like with glasses...just easier/cheaper to get glasses. My insurance allows me an exam/glasses/frames once a year...rather than every other year.
