I keep both DOOMs and Quake I/II around.
No HEXEN action. Uses the doom engine from memory. I liked the idea behind
this one, but found it a little to heavy on the
logic puzzle... I was happy relaxing shooting monsters, rather than having
to sit and think quite as hard as Hexen was
requiring.

I still have to beat the expansion.
Also, if you need some middle ground between shooting things up and thinking, try Strife. Just beware it is a story oriented
game with plot branches which you can make unwinnable by siding with the wrong people and that sort of thing, so save often.
Other than that it is nice because it has some stealth and puzzle elements, but
it is a shooter game at heart.
