• The final lead up to championship season.

Had a busy weekend this week. It's officially early autumn (seasons change on March1, June1, September 1 and December 1 here), and the last month or so of the "summer" sporting season, which started in early October. As you'd expect, the end of the season usually means major championships are in the wind. This is true for me, but more on that later. :)

Saturday was the last local track meet for the season. With a busy weekend in store and this meet not being of much importance in itself, I opted for an easier program and entered the 100 and 200m, as well as the two throws - hammer and discus.

The throws were mostly for fun, while the sprints were used as tune up training runs. Had some good results too, with a season best 13.26 for the 100m. This was the fastest 100m time I've run since late January 2018. It's also the fastest time I've run since turning 50. In the 200m, I ran 27.01, which is a good time for me at any time, but I had to quickly gt from the throws to the start and change shoes, resulting in close to 300 metres of running, immediately before the start. Under those conditions, it was an excellent
    ime.

Yesterday (Sunday) was a fire brigade competition. Again, good results, had some great runs, and our team won 4 events, placed in several others and won the aggregate for the day.

So now the major events are about to win. For the rest of the season, I have the following:

7-8/3. 200m handicap race at the Bendigo Madison. This is a pro-style race on grass, and there's even prize money on offer. I should find out my handicap in the next couple of days.

15-16/3 - Victorian Masters Track and Field Championships. (state level)

21/3 may be a fire brigade competition, otherwise a rest weekend.

28-29/3 - Victorian State Fire Brigades Championships.

10-13/4 (Easter) - Australian Masters Athletics Championships (nationals).

And after that, I do straight into cross country season. I will also be looking at getting a specialist PT who specialises in strength and conditioning for Masters athletes. Or in gaming terms, some boss battles over the next 6 weeks, then levelling up for next year. :D

... The nicest thing about growing older is that it takes such a long time.
