What's THE READER V4.50? Is it an offline message reader for BBS?

Its actually an ONLINE reader for a hudson/jam/squish message base bbs. Compared to more modern software its probably still a little clunky but compared to the native reading style in RA/SuperBBS/QBBS/ProBoard etc its a positively space age interface that makes skimming and reading through the message base a breeze.

Remarkably easy to install, only had one foible during install which boiled down to fossil emulation. It keeps its own lastread pointers not using the BBS user bases, so depending on how you see it, that can be a good or bad thing. :)

I also preferred the messages with the soft-CRs, because of dynamic word wrapping. Is it possible to replace soft-CRs with spaces?

Btw, why do some of your mails have a MSGID and some don't?

Some are written directly from SuperBBS, some are written from inside "The Reader" which is a door. Not sure which one has MSGID and which one doesn't. Most of mine come out of the reader.. this particular message is direct from SBBS though.

You had Mystic running before on Slackware, and it was running right, so something had to have changed.

I am in BST currently, which is UTC+1 ;)

But I suppose I agree -- my BBS is using UTC, despite being based in Chicago and me having been in California and Germany without changing

If all systems operated in UTC, comparing log files and tracing issues etc is made so much easier. I am of course talking about managing multiple systems yourself, it doesn't matter to me if someone else's servers are not UTC, as long as I don't have to diagnose issues with them =)

In that case, theoretically people could just have the same time zone on all
    of them.

Though, certainly diagnosing an issue where they were on UTC for something,
but the chosen time zone for something else would certainly be a bother.

But I think about the only thing that'd seem especially pertinent to me is
the time of messages on here, but I'll admit I don't ever recall looking or caring about the message times -- not even when replies wind up arriving
    before the initial messages.

Yeah, I'm confused by this temporary lack of a correct TZUTC. I did an upgrade that included a new kernel and tzdata package and after rebooting it's all working as expected again.

There was never a problem on this box with the time so I'm not sure what the problem or solution was. That's spooky but the problem has gone away anyway so I guess it's all good.

Maybe I just needed a reboot!
