There's a great book by James Adams called, "Conceptual
Blockbusting." Adams worked for NASA, and in the book
tells the story of something they were building for a
probe that was exceptionally complicated and a real bear
in the design process. Eventually, however, the
engineers realized that they didn't need it at all.
The observation was that the easiest component of a
complex system to debug is one that isn't there.
Dunno how that relates to your weather script, but it's
a fun story.
