    kernel.

    kernel.

Technically the kernel is a component of the operating system. The GNU utilities make up the rest.

However, based on his question, I think he's asking for the source code to everything, from boot loader to the graphical desktop, as though it were one monolithic distribution... which is a question that goes nowhere fast.

So it’s like Synchronet BBS, in different pieces assembled together to make an OS. I didn’t know that.

Nah. Most systems people refer to the kernel as the operating
system; the rest is the "userspace" or distribution or similar.
But this is semantics and yeah, people can be fast and lose
    with the nomenclature.

The GNU utilities certainly aren't ubiquitous (consider an
embedded system that boots directly into a single userspace
process, or perhaps into something like Busybox).

However, based on his question, I think he's asking for the source code

Yeah. This ain't SunOS 3.2 with XView.

It’s people like you with comments like that ruins it for other people trying to have a civil conversation.
Profanity should not be allowed to be used in messages. That’s proper ethical conduct of behaviourism.

3 or 4 at a time that ruin it for the ones who are trying to have civil conversations?

It's an actual thing, but I'm pretty sure he stumbled upon it by accident. The whole thing reads like an attempt to fluff up his words to sound more intelligent or authoritative or both.
