Hmm todays left field question, right out of the blue, Win7 has decided to ask me to back up my encryption key and certificate. What makes this weird, is I'm not using any file system encryption, never have, and never seen this before. No idea what started it, at this point, I s'pose I might as well, in case someones been playing with it in my absence... But I can't see any way to check
    what its doing.

seems weird to me, if you never used it.. I'd beware..

Agreed, and considering Win 7 is no longer supported, I'm highly suspicious this is nefarious.

That's an aspect I hadn't considered. Lets see what some scanning does.. if if
this install packs it in, its probably about time for a new install anyway. Its done a lot of hard yakka with dodgy installs and cleanups. I'll still be on
Win7 though.. nothing seems to be any good after that, plus my hardware isn't really up to it..

Well so far the regular scanning sees no problems..

I picked a acer laptop from the long shop, someone tried putting win10 on it, core2 with 2Gb ram... its like pushing treacle... plus that really weird interface... will have to use it one day I guess... prbobably after its obsolete like everything else here :)

Look at the icons in the "This PC" window in explorer. Memory fades already, but you should see either a different colored icon or a lock overlaid over
    the icon if it's encrypyted.

From an administrator command prompt, you could also type in
manage-bde -status to check on Bitlocker status.

Yep. But a strange one to see so quickly after the support ended. More likely something that was out there but unrelated to the loss of OS patching. My 5 cent guess :)

This reports that BitLocker is inactive... Fully Decrypted, 0% encrypted.
So thats something, I wonder what it backed up in its lil backup file then.

I picked up a laptop someone had stuck win10 on, from my usual shop. Guess what I found in there.... "This PC" Win7 has "My Computer" in it still :)

Yeah I took the hint late last year when Office365 warned me that there was no guarantee that it would run on Windows 7 after January 20, because future updates would only for be Windows 8 and later. So, I upgraded this PC to Windows 10, and actually it has been an improvement, once I toned down some of the eye candy in favour of performance.
