Giving my boss my notice today. For some reason I'm pretty nervous about it since I suspect he will react pretty badly to my decision.

Best of luck to you; around here the worst they could do is pay out your 2 weeks and walk you out the door.

Make sure you have all the data you want to take with you and delete all of your mp3s and bookmarks off of your work PC beforehand. :)

Do you have something lined up, or are you leaping into the great unknown?

By the time you read this all that stuff will have happened I guess.. but a quick (belated) thinking of you reply and I hope things played out as well as they could and whatever the next steps are in your plans they go well.

Sending good vibes from this side of the globe. :)

He took it rather badly. In this country we have a bit more job security by law so I have to remain there for three months while they find a replacement. That works both ways of course - should they sack me I have three months to find a new job.

I have two new jobs lined up. They pay pretty much the same but one involves more travel and a fancy company car and the other is a daily commute without much drama. I'll probably go for the second one since it's with a company with
a great reputation for taking care of their employees.

The 3-month thing is interesting. When you accept a job offer, does the new employer assume they won't see you for 3 months?

People talk about the psychology of job seeking; that people perform better looking for a job when they're currently employed. I can understand that; I was unemployed for a while, and it took a while to get into good form in interviewing. I was then hired and hiring people for my department and I
could see a significant difference between those that were out of work (especially those laid off from long-term jobs) and people currently
    employed.

This was a group interview, and one interviewee was very clearly shell- shocked from being laid off after 10+ years, and my cohorts were not
impressed by her. I had to chime in and remind people what it would be like
to be in her position and look at her merits, as I thought she could be a great addition to our department.

The actual hire is another story...

Been there too many times. One thing which impressed me the most was this paragraph. Being on the other side of that desk & understanding where she was coming from is amazing. Sorry she didn't get the job & hope she found
something which allowed her to use her talents/abilities.

Reading this restored a touch of my faith in humanity.
