• RFC Quake III

From Spectre@21:3/101 to Anyone on Tuesday, December 03, 2019 13:57:00
Probably a bit out of left field for a BBS thing. But I was wondering if anyone would be interested in a Quake III server, complete with stats and what have you. Used to keep one locally for a long time, was able to play with the boys on it. They've kind of moved on now. It'd be easy enough to set up again.

If you're interested in wasting some extra time in Quake at all let me know :)

If you're interested in wasting some extra time in Quake at all let me know :)

Sure, I'd have a good at that. Quake is one of my favorite things. The original
    and quake 3.

I'm also rather fond of AssaultCube and UrbanTerror.

I wouldn't mind an active OpenArena server; haven't played that in years.

I was astounded to find out that a Quake II server that I used to play back
in 1997-1999 (Sheridan City1) is still up and running. There's no one there, but the memories of a server in full-on Deathmatch mode, complete with multiple campers, newbies and everything in between running non-stop for hours. Stand Still and Die.

Oh man, I spent a LOT of time playing the original quake back in the day (mostly DM and 1x1 games). I never got too much into quake III but I still
have the original CDs as well as in my steam library. If you get this setup I'll give it a shot :)

The trusty Q3 server cd I have has decided its going to be unreadable. :/ And after trawling through my HD collection it just seems to have gone to god. So its been trickier than I initially expected.

I have a small and for the present very ugly server installed. If you want to have a quick look, it should answer at tlp.zapto.org:27960 I'm using the ioquake3 engine, and theres some kind of problem with bots for some reason. They're not parsing properly its complaining about missing files.

I might try messing around with the old point release and see if it'll work any
better that way. So long as it'll run under x64.

Have you looked at Arcane Dementions? I exceed's even Q3. You'll need an updated engine to play it like fitzquake or quakespasm (based on fitzquake).

Spectre might have to set his config to allow map downloads if one is missing.

Did it say what map is missing? lvlworld.com probably has what you need.

She's running on the core2, with boontu 18.04LTS I'll have to have a refresher course in screen, at the moment its holding a terminal window open, and how to actually get a log out of the thing. That used to be an artform in itself.

My client is the original cd with point release added running in win7, gives me
hope the old point release dedicated server will still run.

I'll get the map screens together and pop them up somewhere. I can't push them,
because I don't have any kind of tic processor.

I miss those days. I was huge into Quake ][. I was in tournaments and even
won a trophy that was mailed to me house (hehehehehe) ... As a matter of fact, the server I played on all those years ago (early 2000s) is still online,
just sitting there - rotating maps - empty.

I never really ventured out much in those days. I just used the stock Q2 experience - but my favorite was the mod "LoX" Loxophilia inside game play.
I played against clanwos.org back then. I was in a group called Team BOD "Bringers Of Death". https://web.archive.org/web/20060128011322/http://www.bringersofdeath.org/ Every now and then I'll log into www.tastyspleen.net and hit up the death
match servers, but holy moly I'm not as quick as I was then. I get killed non stop. It's fun though... That and Unreal Tournament 99!
