URL shorteners are dangerous because they require extyra effort to
determine if the endpoint may be dangerous or not.
we need some kind of BBS shorthand equivalent I guess...

Maybe something that, upon clicking the link, sends you to a webpage which reads: "You are being taken to $target_link. Are you sure you want to go there? Yes/No"
Some URL shorteners provide some way for testing which is the target link before you visit it. Precisely because sometimes the target link is "evil_scamming_site.com/your_tracking_ID", so when you hit it, the evil_scamming_site gets to know who opened the link via the tracking_ID.
(Example case, when they send targetted links to three members of an organization, and each member is assigned his own tracking link and gets an unique link in the email as a result. If one hits the link, the scammer will know which person was the one who bit the bait).
