any chance you can post short URLs like a bit.ly or tiny url version in the future? It's a killer to cut/paste those longer suckers :)

But that was the link for the site. How do I convert it then?

go to tinyurl.com, paste this long url into one box, and then it gives you
a short url that will redirect to the longer one.

In past, when I have used it, you did not have to pay for it.

URL shorteners are dangerous because they require extyra effort to determine if the endpoint may be dangerous or not.

That is the reason why SMS phishers use URL shorteners. They make easier for grannies to visit poisonous links.

Maybe something that, upon clicking the link, sends you to a webpage which reads: "You are being taken to $target_link. Are you sure you want to go there? Yes/No"

Some URL shorteners provide some way for testing which is the target link before you visit it. Precisely because sometimes the target link is "evil_scamming_site.com/your_tracking_ID", so when you hit it, the evil_scamming_site gets to know who opened the link via the tracking_ID.

(Example case, when they send targetted links to three members of an organization, and each member is assigned his own tracking link and gets an unique link in the email as a result. If one hits the link, the scammer will know which person was the one who bit the bait).
