• Pissing off a whole new net!

From McDoob@21:4/135 to All on Monday, January 10, 2022 00:34:49
    Greetings!

Thanks to yet another Mystic Guy video (much love, Avon), I've managed to
    bring PiBBS onto FidoNet, too!

Now I have a whole 'nother group of people to annoy! \(^_^)/

All joking aside, I will try my best to bring fsxNet values to FidoNet.
Despite a certain hobbit who keeps antagonizing me, even there...

From my experience, there isn't a whole lot of moderation going on with Fido; if you draw your gun, you better be ready to shoot :)

I particularly like fsxNet, because Avon is keen to maintain an enjoyable experience for everyone.

I've noticed. Notwise Gamgee immediately started attacking me as soon as I posted my first message.

My ex will be the first to tell you, sometimes I shoot my gun too early. But
my bullets always find their target. That's how I became a father! ;)

I particularly like fsxNet, because Avon is keen to maintain an enjoyable experience for everyone.

I have to agree, on both points. Avon is very quick to respond to poor behaviour, and this is why fsxNet is better!

    You will be most welcome!

Just, keep in mind...I've only been working on it for a month...

    I think that's a little unfair, here's my 2 cents.

Fido has some superb history and color and that's stuff that only comes with time. There's been some super developments over the years in FTN tech that have come from the Fido community and so forth. I would be sad to see Fido cease and hope it lasts a long long time yet :)

For the most part I think Fidonet is a good network and run by well meaning people who do their best to keep the thing ticking along and who care for it and it's history.

There are some interesting conversations in some echomail areas between people to be found in Fidonet. You will find that because of the over size of the BBS community globally, there are a number of folks that are common to many networks (including Fido). I find find conversations jump around between networks and echos between the same people at times. This can be a tad hard to keep up with, just saying ;-)

With the history / passage of time in Fido there are a few folks in Fido echos that do seem to carry an ongoing grudge against each other. Often debates or niggles that spans years. It seems somewhat futile to spend so much energy
talking about XYZ in 1990 or ABC in the 2000s but hey, if they choose to spend their time writing back and forth in angry tones that's their affair I guess.

But for me life's to short to be in an ongoing battle or niggle for weeks, months or years.

All of which to say is don't discount Fidonet as a source of fun and BBS activity. You may wish to lurk a bit then post when you think the thread is of interest etc.

    Best, Paul

    I think that's a little unfair, here's my 2 cents.

That was a knee-jerk statement, after my first few minutes on fido, and yes,
a little unfair. In my defence, I had a couple of people get pretty rude with me immediately after my first couple of posts. It would be unfair indeed to discount an entire net because of a couple of people...unless they were the only ones there... :)

But for me life's to short to be in an ongoing battle or niggle for
    weeks, months or years.

Amen! I find my self saying 'Life's too short for this $#!T' a lot, as I get older...

Good advice. I am currently taking part in a thread about basic Linux concepts with a well-mannered person, and I find it quite enjoyable.

As always, my problem is a lack of self-control when people give me attitude. Or, rather, when I percieve that attitude. I've struggled with it for a long time. It really is difficult for me to choose not to respond. I'm always trying to improve on that.

I recall reading the "rules" in the Policy4 document.

    1. Don't be excessively annoying.
    2. Don't be excessively annoyed.

It seems like rule 1 is enforced and people forget rule 2.

And I have to oversee a significant operation of that Fido cesspool...

You've got a whole zone of sysops and other zones to deal with; my region

Ah, fsxNet is completely unlocked for general use on PiBBS. I don't expect
