Not sure if anyone here has heard of or is using Project Honeypot but I thought I'd mention it here because it's a great, free project for catching potential spammers.

For those that don't know, a honeypot is a trap setup to catch someone in the act.

There's a few way to participate. The main one is to run a honeypot on your website. A unique email address is generated any time someone crawls your website looking for email addresses. By having a hidden link, only the spammers will pick it up. Once email is sent the project will pick it up and log the IP.

You can also donate an MX record, and many of us have our own domains, so this is a no brainer. You create an unused MX record and redirect it to one of their mail servers, for example, I could create rely.endofthelinebbs.com which points to their server. When spammers try to use this relay, they get caught.

I've used it on and off for about 10 years and caught a number of people looking for addresses.

Anyway, for those interested, you can read more at projecthoneypot.org
