If you haven't seen it already, I'd recommend taking a look at cool-retro-term on github. It does a great job recreating amber & green screen terminals on MacOS or Linux. Pretty fun little toy.

hahah that's fantastic, thanks for sharing.

I wonder if that'll run on a Pi running linux.. Because that would be
    just perfect. :D

I enjoy it, although when I installed it on my MacOS work computer the fonts were all wonky on the default profile. After adjusting it it worked great, though.

So I started playing with it, and I'm now connected to my BBS using cool-retro-term and qodem under linux. qodem is a console based BBS
terminal and is the perfect complement.

    It's brilliant. :)

    Thanks Pat!

I haven't tried, but it should compile on the Pi too:

That's the best part of compiling from source. Sure, it's not as easy as "apt-get install", but one can (generally) get any software to compile on any machine, even if there's no 'official' installer.

Back when I was supporting Solaris systems in the '90s, you'd find a binary package for gcc (since you couldn't compile it without a compiler) then the rest of whatever you wanted to add was from source.

./configure;make;make install did the trick for most source packages.
