From Warpslide@21:3/110 to All on Tuesday, August 24, 2021 16:06:21
    Hi All,

After a nice lull in numbers in July, it looks like numbers are continuing to climb here in my home province of Ontario:

Monday, July 05, 2021: 244 New Cases (1346 New Cases for This Week)
Monday, July 12, 2021: 146 New Cases (1068 New Cases for This Week)
Monday, July 19, 2021: 127 New Cases (1111 New Cases for This Week)
Monday, July 26, 2021: 129 New Cases (1326 New Cases for This Week)
Monday, August 02, 2021: 164 New Cases (1826 New Cases for This Week)
Monday, August 09, 2021: 321 New Cases (3082 New Cases for This Week)
Monday, August 16, 2021: 348 New Cases (3951 New Cases for This Week)
Monday, August 23, 2021: 486 New Cases (1125 New Cases *So Far* This week)

According to a news article dated August 11th:
"'No doubt' Canada now in 4th wave of COVID-19 as cases spike across much of the country"
    https://www.cbc.ca/news/health/covid-4th-wave-arrival-1.6136506

I'm really not liking where this is going. Hopefully with vaccination rates being what they are in Canada this wave won't be as brutal as the previous ones, where we were seeing more than 3000 or even 4000 new cases per DAY there for awhile back in April 2021.

I have movie tickets to see Shang-Chi in theatre on Sept 4th, I hope everything is still open by then...

I have movie tickets to see Shang-Chi in theatre on Sept 4th, I hope everything is still open by then...

I enjoyed watching Free Guy this past weekend, and do recommend it as a fun thing to watch, so long as you're up for a Ryan Reynolds movie.

I found it kind of interesting in attending -- the theater was pretty full,
and there were plenty of people around me eating things, and presumably not bothering with masks.

I switched over to my good mask (a mask with a rubber gasket around the
edges, two n95 filters, and then some stuff on the outlet so that that
portion is filtered, too.), and kept it on throughout. (I'd use the mask more often, because it's the most comfortable one I have, but it gets me stares
and I basically can't talk through it. And get told by airlines to take it
off because they don't understand that it's not a vented mask.)

I'm not really ready to have the "normal" movie experience, yet, but it was interesting to be back in a theater for the first time in a year and a half.

On 25 Aug 2021, Adept said the following...

I enjoyed watching Free Guy this past weekend, and do recommend it as a fun thing to watch, so long as you're up for a Ryan Reynolds movie.

We were thinking of doing a drive-in movie this upcoming weekend. Free Guy is the first movie which starts at 8:35pm, the second movie is Jungle Cruise which starts at 10:40pm.

I remember being a young spring chicken and being able to make it through both movies, sadly those days have passed.

I found it kind of interesting in attending -- the theater was pretty full, and there were plenty of people around me eating things, and presumably not bothering with masks.

The online booking experience for the sit-in theatre was interesting, once you picked your seats it blocked off the seats around you. So thankfully we won't be bumping elbows with others around us.

The theatre we have tickets to is a "VIP" cinema which has bigger & more comfortable seats as well as in-seat service where you can order meals, snacks & beer/wine/pop right from your seat and they bring it to you. It costs a little more, but we reserve it for movies we're really looking forward to seeing. And because they serve alcohol it's age 19+ so no young whipper-snappers to ruin the experience by talking/texting through the show.

(I'm destined to become a grumpy old man yelling at clouds...) ;)

Ya, i much prefeer to watch movies in the comfort of my own home. i like
being able renting new releases off amazon / HBO / Disney+ - with modern 4k tvs, the image quality is as good as you get in the movie theater....
    - but thats just my preferance though. i do believe in supporting movie
theater buisnesses, but i am lazy and dont like driving places lol.

Maybe the problem is that with cases spiking everybody is going to watch Shang-Chi...

It is the same thing here. Nobody is careful anymore. They either got tired or think they are
    immortal.

The main reason for going to the cinema is getting under your girlfriend's skirt in the back row,
    or so they say.

I liked going to the cinema, because going to the cinema was more of an experience than watching
the movie. You went there with your friends or whatever, watched the movie, then went and had
dinner and talked about the movie.

If you want only the "movie" experience, then The Pirate Bay or Postman's Tracker in i2p are just
better, sorry. Failing that, a good DVD collection works wonders.

I no longer go to the cinema anymore because they no longer make movies worth watching :-(

    Lol right!
actually i have noticed too that dvds in the dollar store are super cheap
as well. sometimes ripping the DVD to my plex server works good, sometimes
not so good. i think i am going to have to go the Pirate bay way for downloading the show "Continuum" as it seems to be banned in the US. and no
one sells it even amazon... probably cuz it hit too close for comfort with
alot of Multi national corps here in the US. lol they dont like their wage slavery tactics being revealed.

It was kind of an unexpectedly interesting experience for me, since people's reactions were audible to various cameos, plot points, etc.

I would have preferred an empty theater, and I think it's still a different experience, _somehow_, but, yeah, I probably wouldn't have made the trip
_just_ for the movie, unless I was really wanting an excuse to get out of the house.

I have not enjoyed a new movie in years and years. It's always a remake
or just the same story line over and over again. My wife still goes to
see a few with either our son or grandson, but I can't sit through them.

Continuum was shown on streaming here for awhile. It sounded familiar and I watched it, but I forget on what streaming service (I'm in Arizona). It's not available currently because of licensing/contract concerns.

Here, in my state, they sort of made like since people were getting the
shots that everything would be ok. I can tell that has made some people
relax, and probably too much. Others that were only doing a good job
because there were not as many people to come in contact with are doing
pretty much what they were before (not being very careful).

I like the idea of maybe making facilities at 75% capacity. Some incrementalism for big events like MLB baseball games. Also rapid tests I wish they were more affordable.
