• FuSiON BBS Upgraded!

I decided to upgrade my Rasberry Pi3 B+ from the SD Card boot to the MSATA.
So i purchased the Geekworm MSATA board. Very easy to install and configure the Pi to boot via USB.

In case anyone has been wanting to do it, go for it. Super easy! I used the built in Raspbian SD Card copier program to copy my SDCard to the new MSATA drive. Super fast.

Just trying to find the right bit of hardware could you post a URL to it on their site please? :)

I'm using the USB to SATA dongle which has to run through a powered hub to
work with a laptop drive. What's the cost of this & do you have to use a powered hub to run it?

Pardon my ignorance but, if you have an MSATA drive card, why do you need to boot from the USB?

Trying to get a better understanding of what it is and whether or not I
might want to consider it in the future. :)

I only have the PiZero, but what I ended up doing was finding a small cheapo powered hub at I think it was the supermarket on sale. Pulled the guts out of it, mounted it on the back of the Pi Board with some old PC standoffs, and shared the power between the two... however I do run this thing off a 5A supply... because I have had a lot of stuff plugged into it at different times.

Yes, that is 5v 5A no typo... :)

Have a 7 port powered 1 I got from Amazon when I bought my 2B+ new several years ago. Still works & used it on the Zero to plug everything into.

Didn't use it for power...since the kit I bought had a power supply with an off/on switch.

Sounds like a way to make sure you've got plenty of power to run everything. Ended up going with the ethernet HAT for the 3B+...which cuts down on the cables hanging around & gives it enough power.
